Join Unbound Potential (UP): a Swiss startup founded in 2023 by a team of passionate engineers, chemists, and economists from ETH Zürich.

We envision a resilient, electrified society, one that is not only independent from fossil fuels, but also free from critical mined materials like lithium and vanadium. How will we get there? By developing a disruptive, innovative solution: a membrane-less redox flow battery powered entirely by organic chemistry. Despite the name, our system is one of the simplest large-scale stationary energy storage solutions imaginable - scalable, cost-effective, and sustainable - perfect for energy-intensive industries and utilities.

We are currently expanding our excellent team of disrUPtors and looking for exceptional talent to join our mission. If you’ve ever been truly passionate with something - tech, academia, sport, art -and pushed yourself to the edge of excellence, you know what it takes. That’s what we care about. We’re building a team of dreamers and builders who are all-in on doing something unique and making a meaningful impact on society.

If you feel that same urgency and ambition to shape a better world: you belong here.

What will you do:

  • Contribute to the development of our membrane-less redox flow battery across different domains: chemistry, mechanical engineering, automation, and business.
  • Design, build, and test experimental setups, prototypes, and system components for lab-scale and pilot-scale systems.
  • Support R&D activities, including material development, electrochemical testing, fluid systems, and system integration.
  • Assist in automation and data infrastructure tasks (e.g. sensors, PLCs, monitoring systems), depending on your background and interests.
  • Conduct market research, techno-economic analysis, and explore business models for large-scale energy storage solutions.
  • Analyze data, interpret results, and contribute to continuous improvement of our technology and processes.
  • Collaborate closely in an interdisciplinary team of engineers, chemists, and business professionals.
  • Document your work and present results, insights, and progress within the team.

What will you bring

  • Background in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical/Automation Engineering, Business, or a related field.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a hands-on mindset and willingness to build, test, and iterate.
  • Experience with relevant tools depending on your domain (e.g. CAD software, programming in Python/JavaScript, data analysis tools, or laboratory techniques).
  • Curiosity and motivation to quickly learn new technologies (e.g. automation systems, electrochemistry, fluid systems, or energy technologies).
  • Ability to work independently with a proactive and structured approach.
  • Strong communication skills and willingness to collaborate in interdisciplinary teams.
  • Interest in energy storage, sustainability, and emerging technologies.
  • (Nice to have, depending on role): experience with PLCs, microcontrollers, rapid prototyping, electrochemical methods, data pipelines, or techno-economic analysis.

You are

  • Currently pursuing or recently completed a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a relevant field (e.g. engineering, chemistry, computer science, business, or similar).
  • Motivated to work in a dynamic, high-performance, and collaborative startup environment.
  • Passionate about climate-tech, energy, and driving the renewable energy transition.
  • A hands-on problem solver with a strong sense of ownership and a “maker” mentality.
  • Curious, proactive, and eager to learn quickly.
  • Structured, detail-oriented, and able to work independently.
  • A strong team player with excellent communication skills.
  • Fluent in English.
