Job Summary
The Manager, Strategic Projects is responsible for initiating and executing strategic sustainability initiatives that support UNGCMBC’s priorities and strengthen its impact. The role combines strategic planning, partnership development, project management, and stakeholder engagement to translate emerging sustainability priorities into practical and collaborative initiatives and programmes. Working across multiple thematic areas, the Manager will lead projects from concept development through implementation, while building strategic partnerships and ensuring successful project delivery.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Project Development
- Identify emerging policy developments, sustainability trends, and market opportunities that align with UNGCMBC's strategic priorities.
- Develop innovative project concepts, initiatives, and programmes that address corporate sustainability challenges and create measurable impact.
- Prepare project proposals, concept notes, implementation plans, and budgets for new strategic initiatives.
- Build and manage a pipeline of strategic projects that support organisational growth and long-term sustainability.
Project Management
- Lead the end-to-end planning and implementation of strategic sustainability projects, ensuring timely delivery within scope and budget.
- Coordinate internal teams, consultants, and external partners to ensure effective execution of project activities.
- Ensure projects achieve agreed objectives and key performance indicators.
Partnership Development
- Identify, establish and maintain strategic partnerships with government, academia, corporates, and international organisations.
- Support fundraising efforts by identifying grant opportunities, sponsorships, and collaborative funding arrangements.
Monitoring, Evaluation, and Reporting
- Develop monitoring and evaluation frameworks to assess project performance and impact.
- Collect, analyse and report project data and outcomes to internal and external stakeholders.
- Document lessons learned and best practices to strengthen future programme design and implementation.
- Prepare high-quality reports and presentations for management and project partners.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Sustainability, International Relations or a related field.
- Minimum 5 years of relevant professional experience in sustainability, ESG, programme management or a related field.
- Strong understanding of corporate sustainability, ESG, the UN Global Compact principles, SDGs, and related sustainability frameworks.
- Demonstrated experience managing projects involving multiple stakeholders from concept development through implementation.
- Experience developing partnerships with government, academia, corporates, and international organisations.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including experience preparing proposals, presentations, and reports.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel and PowerPoint) and project management tools (i.e., Asana).
- Fluent in English; proficiency in Bahasa Malaysia and Mandarin is an advantage.
- For non-Malaysian candidates, a valid visa to work in Malaysia is required.
