Responsibilities

The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the leading global environmental authority that sets the global environmental agenda, promotes the coherent implementation of the environmental dimension of sustainable development within the United Nations system and serves as an authoritative advocate for the global environment. Its mandate is to coordinate the development of environmental policy consensus by keeping the global environment under review and bringing emerging issues to the attention of governments and the international community for action. The UNEP Climate Change Division works with international and national partners, providing technical assistance and capacity development for the implementation of environmental policy and strengthening the environmental management capacity of developing countries and countries with economies in transition. UN-REDD Programme supports the Government of Indonesia to implement its ambitious Forestry and Other Land-Use (FoLU) Net Sink Plan to 2030, which represents a solid framework and basis for UN-REDD support to the country. In addition, the programme is also providing dedicated technical support to the Riau Province of Indonesia to receive international jurisdictional-level Results Based Payment’s from both public and private sources for high-integrity emission reductions in line with the national/provincial FOLU Net Sink 2030 plans. Working as part of the UN-REDD Jakarta team and the broader Asia Pacific team, the National Programme Officer will be responsible for coordination of the Indonesia level implementation including the liaison with government and partners for smooth implementation. This post is located in the Climate Change Division, at the Jakarta duty station, under the direct supervision of UN-REDD Asia and the Pacific Regional Coordinator.
