Utility Regulator for Northern Ireland

Regulating the electricity, gas and water industries in Northern Ireland, https://www.uregni.gov.uk/job-opportunities

Requirements of the role

Protecting Northern Ireland’s energy and water consumers, today and tomorrow is what we do.

This is an exciting time to join us. We are expanding as an organisation to fully support Northern Ireland in meeting the challenges of climate change, the continued cost-of-living crisis and ensuring the continuity of energy and water supplies.

Electricity, gas and water are essential services that support all homes and businesses in Northern Ireland. As an economic regulator, it is our role to enable, incentivise and hold energy and water companies to account for providing the very best levels of service and price for consumers both now and in the future.

Green Gas Manager

Responsibilities

As a Green Gas Manager within the Utility Regulator, you will be responsible for developing analysis to support the Department for the Economy (DfE) in its policy development efforts in the following areas:

  • Green gas integration on the gas network (biomethane, hydrogen)
  • Future of the gas network
  • Alignment of these with heat policy development

DfE’s policy work will have an impact on the Utility Regulator’s regulatory framework, and fundamentally so for gas networks. The Utility Regulator may also evolve our regulatory frameworks within our vires to do so. You will be required to maintain an understanding of the factors that could shape the transition of the gas network to renewable gases and to evaluate how the regulatory framework for gas networks may need to change to meet these challenges and manage the delivery of any associated projects.
