The Role:

The Asset Management and Sustainability area is responsible for the development of asset policies, strategies and plans to determine the significant investment required into Ireland’s infrastructure. The area drives investment and the sustainability and innovation agenda for the organisation and leads on Environmental Regulation and Compliance activities, ensuring the quality of water and wastewater is continuously monitored.


The Sustainability Policy and Reporting team are responsible for developing sustainability-related policies which will enable the realisation of sustainability commitments. This team also conduct monitoring, evaluation and reporting services against objectives outlined by the organisation internally and by external actors. The Policy and Reporting team guide the organisation’s policy direction and ensure consistency and clarity across internal functions and across the tender development and evaluation process. The team will provide internal and external facing reporting and act as the ‘one stop shop’ for sustainability-related data.


Reporting to the Sustainability Reporting Compliance Technical Manager, The Sustainability Policy & Process Technical Lead is responsible for researching and drafting multiple high-quality and robust narratives, suitable for publication if appropriate, which appropriately demonstrate compliance to sustainability regulatory requirements and/or progress towards organisational sustainability initiatives and ambitions. You will work closely with teams across the organisation to produce accurate report content that appropriately communicates sustainability outcomes and progress. The role holder will support the sustainability teams, ensure alignment with regulatory requirements and be responsible for drafting all Uisce Éireann’s sustainability reporting content.


Main Duties and Responsibilities:


• Lead the development and update of sustainability related policies and procedures in order to ensure the compliance requirements of CSRD, Net-Zero and other sustainability initiatives are met and fully align with each other efficiently.

• Conduct thorough research and analysis of material produced by teams across Uisce Éireann to accurately and comprehensively structure sustainability ESG policies and processes.

• Provide high quality and robust policy content which accurately describes the policy intent as well as background and requirement

• Produce easily understood process documentation that supports the sustainability reporting compliance team’s requirements

• Draft comprehensive, accurate reports and content, appropriate to different audiences, to support tracking progress on our sustainability ambitions;

• Working with the subject matter experts across the organisation, document up-to-date advice on evolving ESG sustainability reporting standards relating to global initiatives including net zero, climate change, biodiversity etc;

• Proactively identify gaps between current and new compliance reporting activities, providing recommendations and working with subject matter experts to produce additional evidence or content;

• Benchmarking Uisce Éireann sustainability reporting compliance to peers, industry best practice and evolving trends making recommendations for improvements;

• Collaborate extensively with teams across the organisation, including multimedia, to create engaging content for various platforms which supports embedding the understanding of policy content and processes.

• Foster and proactively support a culture of accuracy, accountability and continuous improvement in sustainability reporting across the organisation.


General Duties and Responsibilities

• Collaboration with key internal stakeholders across the UÉ business

• Responsible for promoting and delivering health and safety commitments across UÉ and its supply chain, reinforcing positive behaviours and delivering health and safety objectives and requirements to the highest industry standards

• Support the delivery of the Uisce Éireann Transformation Programme, driving results required within the Directorate and supporting organisation-wide objectives

• Conducts duties and responsibilities in accordance with Uisce Éireann’s Information Security policies, standards, processes and controls to protect the confidentiality, integrity and availability of UÉ business information and delivery of critical services, in accordance with the NIS Directive and any other relevant cybersecurity regulation

• Other duties as required


Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

• Relevant third level qualification and or accreditation in Sustainability, Environmental Science, Business or Finance is desirable, and or relevant experience

• A minimum of 5 years’ experience in the water, utilities or similar industries is desirable

• Exceptional writing and editing skills with strong attention to detail.

• Strong data analysis and interpretation to produce accurate, clear and compelling narratives for a variety of audiences

• Ability to create and maintain effective strategic partnerships with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders and influence colleagues to achieve shared goals and improve outcomes

• Proven track record with dealing with and communicating complex information to others

• Capability to develop and manage end-to-end processes to ensure delivery meets customer expectations

• Highly motivated individual, working to the highest ethical professional standards and with proven ability to deliver results

• Demonstrate adaptability and the ability to change focus and direction in line with business strategy and requirements and identify opportunities for improvements and innovation.

• Experience in identifying improvement initiatives for team safety and well being goals
