Jnr Chemist
Your mission
Join us in advancing the chemistry that sits at the heart of our Direct Air Capture technology. As a Junior Scientist on the Kinetics & Solvent team, you'll run lab-scale experiments that directly inform how we develop and optimise our solvent systems — working at the intersection of chemistry, electrochemistry, and material science.
You'll work in a hands-on research environment with fast feedback loops, where your experimental results feed directly into system design and development decisions.
Key points
Skills & Experience
We are an early startup with a big vision - remove 500 million tons of global CO2 emissions from the air by 2035 through Direct Air Capture, roughly the same weight as all humans on earth combined!
To meet our climate targets the reduction of CO2 emissions is not enough, the world actively has to remove billions of tons of CO2 from our atmosphere. To achieve that we at Ucaneo develop an innovative electrochemical Direct Air Capture technology mimicking the human lung to remove CO2 from ambient air.
We are a science and mission-driven team, fast-moving with a break-or-make attitude. Our office and industrial hall is located at Schwarze-Pumpe-Weg 16, 12681 Berlin including a large outdoor area to build one of the largest industrial DAC plants in Germany.
Our commitment to you:

Key points
- Run lab-scale experiments to develop and test solvent systems.
- Analyse reaction kinetics and translate results into actionable insights for the R&D team.
- Maintain rigorous documentation, protocols, and a safe lab environment.
Skills & Experience
- Msc. in Chemistry, Electrochemistry, Material science or related field with solid hands-on lab experience
- Independent and rigorous in wet lab work and analytical techniques (spectroscopy, chromatography, electrochemical characterisation)
- Asks critical scientific questions — you challenge assumptions, not just execute protocols
- Strong experimental track record: designing, running, and troubleshooting with minimal supervision.
- Thinks in systems and owns outcomes — not just tasks
- Fast learner who quickly grasps complex topics and stays curious about the problem, not just the solution
- Combines scientific rigour with pragmatic, hands-on, build-and-learn instincts
- Authentic, reflective, and self-organised — brings structure without losing speed
- Comfortable with ambiguity and effective at working across cross-functional teams
- Clear and direct communicator with both technical and non-technical stakeholders, with strong active listening skills
- Valid Work Permit for Germany, or able to obtain a permit
- Location: Exiting industrial Co-Working Space in Marzahn where we have our own industrial halls to build
- Unique experience contributing to a first-of-a-kind climate-tech project (tFOAK).
- A steep learning curve, exposure to cross-functional challenges, and the ability to shape a project from the ground up.
- Fast-paced, collaborative environment where your decisions have a real impact.
- Competitive compensation and personal growth opportunities.
- Employee stock options
- Learning and development Budget
- Regular team events
- Subsidized BVG ticket
- Laptop and your individual work set up
