As the Assistant Manager, New Vehicle Engineering, you will be responsible for leading engineering activities related to new vehicle launches in the General Assembly area. You will serve as a key liaison between global technical teams—especially in Korea—and the local manufacturing organization to ensure seamless communication, process optimization, and successful project execution. This role requires professional fluency in both Korean and English to support effective cross-cultural collaboration and documentation.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Launch & Project Leadership
Lead assigned areas of new vehicle launch, serving as the primary technical expert.
Oversee project activities including equipment installation, supplier coordination, and process implementation.
Develop and manage engineering specifications considering safety, quality, ergonomics, layout, and production targets (UPH).
Prepare purchasing requests and manage capital budgets for new model projects.
Cross-Functional & Bilingual Communication
Act as the communication bridge between local teams and Hyundai Motor Group technical teams in Korea.
Translate technical documents, specifications, and facilitate bilingual meetings (Korean ↔ English).
Coordinate with Advanced Vehicle Manufacturing Engineering and R&D teams in Korea and the U.S.
Host and participate in video conferences to address design improvements and launch progress.
Process Engineering & Documentation
Create detailed Assembly Process Sheets with visual and written work instructions tailored for operator use.
Analyze vehicle drawings to define optimal assembly sequences, torque specs, and hardware requirements.
Calculate labor time using MODAPTS and optimize manpower allocation.
Ensure workability and quality throughout the assembly process.
Production Support & Continuous Improvement
Address and resolve daily production engineering issues.
Drive performance improvement initiatives in safety, quality, cost, and efficiency.
Participate in cross-functional teams (CFT) to support problem-solving and innovation.
Provide training and support to team members and leaders on technical and process standards.
Reporting & Travel Coordination
Prepare progress reports and presentations for leadership regarding launch activities.
Coordinate pilot build trips and obtain required approvals from HMGMA and Hyundai Motor Company.
Understand and manage labor plans and resource allocations effectively.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required
Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering or a related field.
Minimum 7 years of experience in engineering, manufacturing, supply chain, or production.
At least 3 years of experience developing or improving manufacturing processes.
Fluent in Korean and English at a business-professional level (verbal and written).
Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Eligible and willing to travel domestically and internationally.
No restrictions on international assignments or extended overseas stays.
Strong organizational and multitasking abilities with proven project management skills.
