At least two days per week in the office - subject to working patterns and business requirements. One day a week at a London-based University.
Entry Requirements
A minimum of 2 GCSEs or equivalent at Grade 4 or above including English and Maths 3 A Levels in any subject at Grade A* - C or equivalent.
You are not eligible for this scheme if you currently hold or are working towards a qualification at the same or higher level in a related subject or have already studied content from the qualification for this scheme.
Please note that you will be required to provide original certificates and/or predicted grades as proof for your eligibility checks.
You must be 18 years of age before the start date to be eligible for this scheme.
What qualifications will you gain?
The apprenticeship will incorporate study with our chosen further education institution to gain Environmental Practitioner Apprentice Level 6, which is a degree-level qualification.

Depending on your placement and final role you may be required to undertake a medical - which may include but is not limited to: drugs and alcohol screening, eye test and hearing test.

Job Overview
We’re seeking talented individuals across a range of disciplines and backgrounds to help us on our journey to zero carbon and to live up to TfL’s vision of being London’s strong green heartbeat. Whilst keeping close links to TfL’s Sustainability & Corporate Environment team, you could potentially work in any department within the organisation. You will be working to ensure that sustainability is at the heart of every decision we make.
What will you be doing?
You will complete a two-week induction, and three weeks work experience as a Customer Service Assistant at a station. This will give you invaluable front-line experience and understanding of the customer facing element of working for a transport organisation.
Your apprenticeship programme will then incorporate two different placements each year. Placements will be chosen by you (with the support of your line manager and scheme sponsors) to give you breadth of experience and to align with your interests and ambitions. The placements will allow you to gain the skills, experience and behaviours required to complete the apprenticeship and for your future career.

- Bus Operations (example activities: supporting environmental initiatives in our bus operations, working on the roll out of zero emission buses)
- GLA Central Responsible Procurement Team (example activities: supporting the delivery of the GLA’s Responsible Procurement Delivery Plan)
- Piccadilly Line Upgrade project (example activities:, reporting against environmental metrics, championing climate adaptation, biodiversity and carbon)
- Environment & Sustainability Engineering (example activities: carbon modelling and management, working to make sustainability ‘business as usual’ in TfL Engineering)
- Strategy (example activities: involvement in development and implementation of London-wide environmental transport policy)
- Places for London (example activities: working with property managers to help improve the environmental and social aspects of the London property market).

- Buddy: Usually, an apprentice or graduate who provides support and guidance, and ensures that you feel welcomed in the organisation
- Development adviser: Supports your professional development through providing career coaching and career progression at TfL
