Transition VC is India's first Energy Transition-focused venture capital fund, dedicated to addressing the Climate Crisis and accelerating the nation's goal of reaching Net Zero. The fund is thesis-driven and supports early-stage startups in sectors such as New Energy, E-Mobility, Green Hydrogen, Energy Storage, Net Zero Energy Buildings, and Climate-tech solutions focused on decarbonization. 



Role Overview

Transition VC is looking for a Vice President – Energy Technologies to lead technology thinking across our investment lifecycle. This role will focus on building a strong Energy Transition technology thesis, evaluating startup technologies, and working closely with CTOs and technical founders across our portfolio and pipeline.

The ideal candidate will bring hands-on Technology experience from Energy startups or Energy companies, with the ability to assess technologies from both a technical depth and commercial viability perspective.



Key Responsibilities

  • Build and continuously refine Transition VC’s Energy Transition Technology Thesis, covering emerging technologies, innovation trends, and future opportunities.
  • Lead technology due diligence (Tech DD) for potential investments, including architecture review, scalability, IP assessment, and technology roadmaps.
  • Evaluate the technical strength of startups, including product maturity, engineering practices, data, security, and long-term feasibility.
  • Engage closely with startup CTOs, Product/Development teams, scientists, and technical founders to understand technology vision and execution capability.
  • Support investment teams by translating complex technical concepts into clear investment insights.
  • Identify technology risks and opportunities across portfolio companies and advise founders on technical strategy where required.
  • Stay updated on energy transition innovations, R&D developments, and relevant regulatory or industry shifts.
  • Represent Transition VC in technical discussions, conferences, and ecosystem forums.



Key Requirements

  • 8–10 years of experience in technology leadership roles such as CTO, VP-Tech, VP-Product Development, or senior technical roles in Energy startups, Energy companies, or Energy-focused research-driven organisations.
  • Strong background in Energy or Energy-related Industrial technologies.
  • Proven experience conducting or supporting technology due diligence for startups or scale-ups.
  • Ability to engage credibly with CTOs, engineers, scientists, and researchers.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to connect technology depth to business and investment outcomes.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder-management skills.



Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in energy transition, climate tech, renewables, storage, EVs, hydrogen, grid tech, or related sectors.
  • Exposure to R&D, product commercialisation, or applied research.
  • Prior experience working with VCs, investors, or corporate innovation teams is a plus.
