Company Description Transition Bondi is a community-led initiative grounded in the principles of the global Transition Town movement. The group focuses on nurturing sustainability, strengthening local connections, and inspiring practical action for a greener future. Through workshops, events, and hands-on projects, Transition Bondi empowers community members to learn, collaborate, and lead change. Volunteers join a supportive, values-driven environment where creative ideas and inclusive participation are encouraged. The organisation offers meaningful opportunities for people who want to contribute to environmental and social wellbeing in Sydney’s Eastern Suburbs.

Role Description: The current Convenor is looking to step down by the end of the year, and the opportunity for a new Convenor or Co-Convenor to lead the group has opened.

The group currently has three main programs, all led by a program leader, so the Convenor's role is to be the lead between the Transition Bondi organisation and the programs.

This entails

  • Leading fortnightly meetings
  • Being the main point of contact for new volunteers and coordinating the onboarding
  • Coordinating the monthly newsletter with other volunteers
  • Collaborating with the finance and governance volunteers to ensure finances, insurance and other tasks are up to date.
  • Opportunity to start and maintain your own program in the Bondi area (could be beach clean ups, gardening, education, advocacy, etc.)

Experience and skills Transition Bondi is looking for

  • Clear written and verbal communication skills, including confident facilitation of small meetings and the ability to communicate respectfully and transparently.
  • Comfort with basic digital tools (e.g., email, shared documents, online meeting platforms, simple spreadsheets or task lists) to support hybrid collaboration.
  • Passion in sustainability, climate action, or community resilience, with a willingness to learn about the Transition Town movement.
  • Ability to attend some in-person activities in the Bondi/Sydney area and to commit time consistently
  • Prior experience in community organising, volunteer coordination, or event planning is beneficial but not essential.
  • Time needed is about 5 hours per week for admin tasks, meetings and events.
