Trane in Grand Rapids, MI is hiring a Sales Engineer Intern to explore the HVAC Industry. In this role, you will closely interact with customers, account managers, project managers, technicians, and suppliers to ensure the timely completion of assigned estimates and project execution. Responsibilities include the technical selection and pricing of equipment for each project. You must be able to provide estimating support to the equipment sales team.

Base Pay Range: $24/hour - $26/hour.

Job Summary
Trane in Grand Rapids, MI is hiring a Sales Engineer Intern to explore the HVAC Industry. In this role, you will closely interact with customers, account managers, project managers, technicians, and suppliers to ensure the timely completion of assigned estimates and project execution. Responsibilities include the technical selection and pricing of equipment for each project. You must be able to provide estimating support to the equipment sales team.
Where Is The Work
- Prioritize engaging with customers. When not directly interacting with customers; collaborate with colleagues in your office
- Review Plans & Specifications and develop cost estimates, ensuring accuracy of quantity, size, configuration, voltage, options, etc., of Trane materials, sub-contractors, non-Trane purchased equipment, labor (start-up, service work, etc.), and other construction-related activities to assist Account Managers in bidding projects.
- Provide knowledge and consultation in the form of developing facility-related solutions for the customer’s problems.
- Determine project needs, constraints, and responsibilities to meet the entire customer’s HVAC system design and installation requirements.
- Develop, evaluate, and discuss possible solutions with Account Managers, Project Managers, Sub-contractors, Suppliers, and/or customers.
- Coordinate selection, pricing, and integration of equipment, controls, and services for each project.
- Prepare, finalize, and review preliminary and/or final proposals. Prepare equipment submittals and validate equipment selection.
- Assist Account Managers in determining proposal prices, selling strategies, and developing project fulfillment schedules with the project team.
- Pursuing a Bachelor's or Associate's degree in engineering, engineering technology, or a related field; or one (1) to three (3) years of related experience in estimating, project management, engineering, HVAC, or construction management; or an equivalent combination of education and industry-related experience.
- Strong communication skills and a proactive approach with the willingness to work independently as well as part of a team.
- Proven experience prioritizing tasks to meet tight deadlines within a high-paced environment with attention to detail.
- Familiarity with the operation of HVAC Systems and/or Temperature Controls is preferred.
- Flexibility to work overtime/weekends, as required.
- Must be able to travel locally on occasion and possess a valid driver’s license for a minimum of 12 months, with no major or frequent traffic violations including, but not limited to:
- DUI in the previous 3 years
- Hit & Run, License Suspension, Reckless/Careless Driving, or multiple smaller infractions or preventable collisions in the previous 3 years.
