As the MDM Project Engineering Lead, you will support Supply Engineering teams by contributing to a wide range of engineering activities, including lifecycle support, parts documentation, and engineer-to-order design efforts. You will apply sound Engineering project management principles to help develop solutions that meet both product and customer needs for Trane Supply. Success in this role requires close collaboration with product design teams, advanced engineering, marketing, field operations, and suppliers. You will participate in team decision-making and cross-functional problem-solving throughout the organization.

In addition, this role serves as the owner of the Part data enrichment for project item setup, enabling distribution, syndication, and e-commerce for the Trane HVAC Supply Business. This key role reports directly to the Supply MDM Program Engineering Lead. This position is based in La Crosse, WI, or Davidson, NC.

Core Job Responsibilities

Project & Data Leadership

  • Drive a diverse portfolio of technical projects, including New Product Development (NPD) and productivity enhancements, from concept through execution.
  • Oversee two US Product Information Management team members and 6 dotted-line ETC (Engineering Technical Center) MDM (Master Data Management) team members, located in India & China, coordinating project workloads and ensuring all part setups, enrichments, attribution, and BOM updates meet project deadlines.
  • Serve as the key liaison in project meetings, providing updates on all MDM-related activities and maintaining project documentation to ensure alignment.
  • Demonstrate ability to effectively manage time, prioritize tasks, and implement efficient organizational systems to enhance productivity and meet deadlines

MDM Operations & Governance

  • Orchestrate all master data operations by managing Salesforce cases with MDM and other teams for part setups and enrichment, source changes, and No-Longer-Available (NLA) processing.
  • Guarantee the accuracy of items set up for all engineering data and SBOMs before release to the customers.
  • Develop and maintain robust engineering documentation, from technical reports and specifications to clear installation instructions.

Analytical & Strategic Support

  • Function as a technical expert, analyzing and resolving complex product application issues to ensure lifecycle continuity and customer satisfaction within SLAs.
  • Lead research and analysis for component supersessions and strategic last-time buys, providing data-driven recommendations to the business.
  • Champion continuous improvement by utilizing Operational Excellence tools to enhance data management processes and system efficiencies.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Education: Bachelor of Science degree or a related technical field from an accredited institution.
  • Experience: A minimum of 5 years of experience in technical project management, engineering, and product data management role.
  • Technical Foundation: Deep understanding of core engineering principles, including mechanical/electrical design, manufacturing processes, and complex Bill of Materials (BOM) structure.

Preferred

  • Education: Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field from an accredited institution.
  • Systems Expertise: Hands-on experience with PLM (Product Lifecycle Management) systems (e.g., Windchill, Teamcenter) and ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle) is highly desirable.
  • CAD Proficiency: Experience with 3D CAD software, particularly Creo, is a significant plus.
  • Project Management: Formal project management experience or certification (e.g., PMP, Agile/Scrum) is preferred.
  • Industry Knowledge: Application experience with HVAC products, thermodynamics, heat transfer technology, or related industrial electrical products.

  • Communication: Superior verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to clearly articulate complex technical information to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
