Trajectory Energy Partners, a solar energy development company, is seeking a Legal Counsel to support corporate and project development legal matters. Trajectory works with communities across the Midwest and Mid-Atlantic to develop community solar and utility scale solar projects.

This position will focus on (i) supporting the General Counsel with corporate legal matters, including corporate governance and structure, HR, and contract issues; and (ii) supporting other critical legal workstreams including permitting, regulatory matters, and policy. The ideal candidate is comfortable operating independently, entrepreneurial, and seeking to work on a broad range of legal issues to advance clean energy development efforts.

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Act as first point of contact for routine contracts, including vendor agreements, NDAs, etc. Maintain library of template contracts and terms.
  • Assist with corporate formation and compliance.
  • Advise on corporate governance matters and draft corporate resolutions.
  • Support HR team on employment law and related issues.
  • Assist with the creation and maintenance of databases, trackers, and calendars regarding legal tasks, compliance filings, and internal recordkeeping.
  • Support broader legal team regarding state renewable energy policy matters, state regulatory policy, and local permitting matters.
  • Manage internal systems and databases regarding the foregoing.
  • Travel as needed.

Experience and Background:

  • 2-4 years of corporate law experience, with either law firm or corporate legal department.
  • Experience with regulatory agencies, administrative law, energy policy, or the utility industry is a plus, but not required.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with ability to distill complex technical, legal, and financial subjects.
  • Demonstrated ability to assess risks, weigh client priorities, and give practical legal and commercial advice.
  • Knowledge of or interest in renewable energy development.
  • Strong computer and internet skills, including Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Confirmed ability to work collaboratively within multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Experience in project management.
  • Strong organization skills and ability to handle time to meet frequently changing deadlines in a rapidly changing environment.

Position based in Trajectory’s Chicago office. Hybrid work environment. Occasional travel to work with Trajectory team members, attend conferences, and work with other business partners is required. Salary range is $130,000 - $160,000, dependent on experience.
