Trainer - Gender in Climate Change Policy
Position Summary
Training Design & Development
We are seeking an experienced and highly knowledgeable Trainer / Subject Matter Expert to design and deliver specialized training on Gender in Climate Change Policy. The trainer will support capacity-building initiatives aimed at strengthening gender-responsive climate policy, planning, and implementation across public sector institutions, development organizations, and other stakeholders.
The ideal candidate will combine strong technical expertise in gender and climate change with excellent facilitation skills and the ability to translate complex policy concepts into practical, actionable learning experiences for diverse, international audiences.
Training Design & Development
- Design and customize training curricula, modules, and learning materials on gender-responsive climate change policy, aligned with international frameworks and best practices.
- Integrate gender analysis tools, case studies, and real-world examples relevant to climate mitigation, adaptation, and resilience.
- Ensure training content is inclusive, evidence-based, and tailored to participant profiles, sectors, and regional contexts.
- Deliver engaging in-person and/or virtual training sessions, workshops, and seminars for policymakers, practitioners, and development professionals.
- Facilitate interactive discussions, group exercises, and policy simulations to encourage participant engagement and applied learning.
- Create a safe and inclusive learning environment that encourages dialogue across gender, cultural, and institutional contexts.
- Provide expert guidance on integrating gender considerations into climate policies, strategies, Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs), and climate action plans.
- Support participants in identifying gender gaps, risks, and opportunities within climate policy frameworks.
- Respond to technical questions and provide clarifications during and after training sessions.
- Develop and administer pre- and post-training assessments to measure learning outcomes.
- Collect participant feedback and contribute to continuous improvement of training content and delivery approaches.
- Prepare brief training reports summarizing key outcomes, recommendations, and lessons learned.
- Advanced degree in Gender Studies, Climate Change, Environmental Policy, Development Studies, International Relations, or a related field.
- Minimum of 7 years’ professional experience in gender equality, climate change policy, or related development work.
- Demonstrated experience delivering training or capacity-building programs on gender and climate change for government, NGOs, or international organizations.
- Strong familiarity with international climate and gender frameworks (e.g., UNFCCC, SDGs, Gender Action Plans).
- Deep subject-matter expertise in gender-responsive climate policy
- Excellent facilitation, presentation, and adult-learning skills
- Ability to translate technical policy concepts into practical tools and examples
- Strong cross-cultural communication and stakeholder engagement skills
- Experience working with diverse, international audiences
- Experience working with multilateral organizations, development agencies, or climate finance institutions
- Familiarity with participatory and experiential learning methodologies
- Experience delivering trainings in multiple regions or languages
