Role Purpose

The Sustainability Advisor is responsible for supporting the development and delivery of Tottenham Hotspur's environmental sustainability agenda, turning strategic commitments into practical, measurable and credible action.


Reporting directly to the Head of Impact, the Sustainability Advisor will act as the Club's principal day-to-day sustainability specialist, providing advice, insight and coordination across football, stadium and venue operations, property, procurement, commercial activities and corporate functions.


The role operates through an Advisor-led model: specialist sustainability expertise sits within the Impact function, while ownership and delivery of sustainability outcomes are embedded within the relevant operational areas of the Club.


Key Accountabilities - Sustainability Strategy & Delivery

  • Support the Head of Impact in developing and implementing the Club's sustainability strategy, priorities and annual delivery plan.
  • Translate strategic objectives into practical programmes, actions and measurable deliverables.
  • Coordinate sustainability activity across the Club and maintain visibility of progress against agreed commitments.
  • Provide specialist sustainability advice to departments, leaders and project teams.
  • Identify opportunities to improve environmental performance and maintain a clear sustainability delivery roadmap, working with relevant operational owners to identify dependencies, risks and opportunities.


Environmental Performance

  • Support and coordinate improvements across carbon and greenhouse-gas emissions, energy efficiency, renewable and lower-carbon energy, waste and recycling, water, sustainable procurement, travel and transport, food and catering, biodiversity, materials and resource consumption, and sustainable construction/property projects.
  • Provide expertise, challenge, coordination and measurement while ensuring operational accountability remains embedded within the relevant Club functions.


Data, Measurement & Reporting

  • Develop and maintain robust sustainability data, baselines, targets and reporting processes.
  • Monitor performance against agreed environmental objectives and identify areas requiring intervention.
  • Work with Finance, Data, Property, Stadium Operations, Procurement and other teams to improve the quality and consistency of sustainability information.
  • Prepare sustainability information for the Club's wider Impact scorecard and regular governance reporting.
  • Maintain appropriate evidence and audit trails supporting sustainability claims, disclosures, submissions and accreditations.


Sustainable Operations

  • Build strong working relationships with Stadium Operations, Property and other operational teams.
  • Identify practical opportunities to improve sustainability across the Club's venues and facilities.
  • Support sustainability considerations within capital projects, refurbishment and infrastructure decisions.
  • Balance environmental ambition with safety, supporter experience, operational resilience and commercial requirements.
  • Identify opportunities where improved environmental performance can also generate operational efficiencies or cost savings.


Procurement & Supply Chain

  • Partner with Procurement and relevant business areas to strengthen sustainability considerations within supplier selection and management.
  • Support proportionate sustainability criteria for procurement exercises and identify environmental risks and opportunities within relevant supply chains.
  • Coordinate sustainability-related supplier engagement and data collection, and encourage consideration of whole-life environmental impact.


Commercial & Partnerships

  • Work with Commercial and Partnerships teams to identify appropriate opportunities where sustainability can support existing or prospective partnerships.
  • Provide subject-matter expertise when evaluating sustainability-related propositions.
  • Support credible partner initiatives and ensure sustainability claims are evidence-based and capable of scrutiny.
  • Identify opportunities for partners and suppliers to contribute expertise, innovation or resources that accelerate Club sustainability objectives.

Governance, Regulation & Best Practice

  • Maintain awareness of relevant environmental legislation, regulation, reporting requirements and industry developments.
  • Advise the Head of Impact on emerging sustainability risks and opportunities.
  • Monitor developments across football, elite sport and relevant comparator organisations.
  • Support appropriate environmental policies, standards and governance arrangements.
  • Coordinate sustainability information, responses and submissions required by football governing bodies, partners, regulators or external frameworks.


Engagement & Behaviour Change

  • Support sustainability awareness and engagement across the Club.
  • Translate technical sustainability subjects into clear, accessible and practical guidance.
  • Work with Learning & Performance, Communications and relevant teams to embed sustainability understanding.
  • Develop targeted interventions where they can demonstrably support behavioural or operational change.
  • Support internal sustainability networks or champions where these provide demonstrable value.

Operating Model

The Sustainability Advisor is a specialist advisory and enabling role rather than a standalone operational management function. The role will advise, enable, coordinate, challenge, measure and report, while operational teams remain accountable for sustainability actions within their areas.


Sustainability & Impact Framework Responsibilities

The Sustainability Advisor will lead the day-to-day environmental delivery of the Planet pillar within the THFC Sustainability & Impact Framework and support the Head of Impact in connecting environmental activity to the wider People, Planet and Communities model.

  • Support delivery and measurement of the Climate, Nature and Circularity strategic focus areas, including the Club’s Net Zero 2040 commitment.
  • Coordinate relevant commitments and activity associated with UN Sports for Climate Action and the Sports for Nature framework.
  • Drive practical circular economy initiatives across Club operations and support the development of sustainable stadium operations, including ISO 20121 alignment and continuous improvement.
  • Maintain visibility of existing environmental activity and map it against agreed strategic outcomes, identifying gaps, dependencies, duplication and opportunities for greater impact.
  • Work with operational owners to ensure environmental commitments translate into practical actions, measurable outcomes and credible evidence for the Club’s Impact scorecard and reporting.

  • Clear sustainability priorities and annual delivery plan established.
  • Robust environmental baselines, KPIs and reporting in place.
  • Demonstrable progress against agreed carbon, energy, waste, water and other environmental targets.
  • Improved quality and consistency of sustainability data.
  • Sustainability increasingly embedded within procurement, operations and investment decisions.
  • Clear ownership of sustainability actions across relevant Club functions.
  • Credible and timely reporting through the Club's Impact governance framework.
  • Evidence of operational efficiencies arising from sustainability initiatives where appropriate.
  • External sustainability claims supported by robust evidence.


Experience & Knowledge

  • Demonstrable professional experience within sustainability, environmental management, ESG or a related discipline, with experience independently coordinating sustainability projects or programmes.
  • Practical understanding of carbon measurement, environmental performance, reporting and target setting.
  • Experience working with operational stakeholders to implement sustainability initiatives.
  • Strong data analysis and reporting capability.
  • Understanding of sustainable procurement and supply-chain principles.
  • Awareness of relevant UK environmental legislation and emerging regulatory requirements.
  • Ability to translate technical sustainability matters into practical business recommendations.
  • Experience within sport, major venues, hospitality, entertainment, property or another operationally complex organisation would be advantageous.
