Role: Senior Solar Systems Design Engineer
Lead the engineering and design of solar + storage systems for commercial and industrial projects with a forward-thinking renewable energy company in Irvine, California. This is a high-impact role working on technically complex projects featuring cutting-edge technology including Tesla Megapacks and advanced inverter systems. More than just a design position, this is a growth opportunity for high performers who can lead cross-functional projects, communicate effectively across teams, and deliver innovative solutions with potential to advance into leadership roles. Conduct site walks, evaluate feasibility for PV + ESS projects, lead detailed system designs including site plans, single-line diagrams, conduit schedules, and interconnection packages while using industry-leading tools like PVSyst, Helioscope, HOMER, and SAM. Collaborate with project managers, utilities, permitting authorities, and construction teams to drive continuous improvement of design templates and engineering processes.
Requirements:

Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field
5+ years of experience designing solar PV and energy storage systems for commercial and industrial applications
Strong hands-on experience with commercial solar projects (residential experience alone is not sufficient)
Proficiency in AutoCAD and PVSyst for system design and modeling
Experience developing one-line diagrams and detailed electrical design packages
Familiarity with DC/AC coupled systems and energy storage integration (Tesla, Fluence, PCS, etc.)
Strong knowledge of NEC 690/705/706, UL 1741-SA, and IEEE 1547 standards
Experience with IOU interconnection processes (PG&E, SCE, SDG&E, etc.)
Ability to gather and analyze site data (electrical, structural, environmental)
Excellent documentation and communication skills for cross-functional collaboration
EIT or NABCEP certification is a plus
Team leadership or mentoring experience preferred
