A Day in the Life of a Principal Engineer As a Principal Engineer, you will lead and mentor an interdisciplinary team to deliver multimodal transportation infrastructure in various contexts, from roadway reconstructions to signature trail projects. You will use programs like AutoCAD to fulfill production work on your projects and supervise others doing that production work. You will manage projects and guide your team through design development, design review, bid package development, permitting, and answer questions during construction. You will work with your team to ensure that our projects are consistently of the highest quality. You will assist Engineering Group Managers and/or the Engineering Director in the Northeast by independently managing and leading company projects in the region. Youll be at the table with clients and colleagues from various disciplines, delivering projects to construction. You will also participate in business development, project pursuits, and play a key role in the firms quality initiatives. Work Schedule for a Principal Engineer This full-time position typically works a hybrid schedule of 40 hours a week, with at least two to three days a week in the office. We provide employees with the flexibility and necessary equipment to work from home 2-3 days per week. Qualifications of a Principal Engineer: A Professional Engineering license with ability to obtain in MA and/or RI A bachelor's or master's degree in civil engineering, or relevant field At least 13 years of relevant engineering experience Experience serving as a project manager or design lead role A broad knowledge base in civil engineering, with specific experience in roadway design, drainage design, geometric design, 3D modeling and design of accessible public spaces Experience developing construction documents Interest in multimodal and active transportation design Experience in managing staff Proficiency in Computer Automated Design (AutoCAD or MicroStation) and design software (Civil 3D, GEOPAK or InRoads) Experience managing engineering projects in the Northeast Exposure to construction management Experience using stormwater design software such as HydroCAD or HydroFlow Traffic engineering and Signal design experience Experience working on transit projects Experience in preparing transportation and local agency permit documents You enjoy generating and evaluating engineering solutions that can be constructed and maintained You are passionate about sustainability and the opportunity to work on challenging multimodal projects that make communities more livable You enjoy producing high-quality work products and seeing your projects get built You can build relationships, bring enthusiasm to exciting projects, and are detail oriented with strong problem-solving skills You have experience in Civil Roadway Highway design and are interested in moving into Complete Streets Design #
