Ngā mahi me ngā kawenga | Tasks and responsibilities
In this role, you will contribute to a wide range of transport engineering work, including:
- Delivering technical transport designs for small-scale projects or parts of larger-scale projects on time, within budget and to a high quality, including organising others to complete tasks where required.
- Preparing transport designs, reports, specifications and schedules under the direction and guidance of more senior staff, with technical proficiency in:
- Geometric design
- Traffic services design, including some or all of the following: traffic signage, road markings, pavement design, road safety barriers, traffic signals, and intelligent transport systems (ITS)
- Public transport, walking, and cycling provision
- Developing and implementing initiatives to improve road user safety, with emphasis on the government’s safety strategy (including safety in design practices and the safe systems approach to road design), as well as undertaking or responding to safe system audits.
- Developing and maintaining a professional profile with key clients and the transportation community.
- A BE (Civil) or equivalent engineering qualification
- Minimum 3 years’ industry experience in transportation engineering and design (ideally in a consultancy) and a good working knowledge of transport engineering standards
- The ability to analyse and interpret transport engineering problems using sound theoretical knowledge
- Strong self-management skills and the ability to work effectively with limited supervision
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to work in full cooperation with team members to build a strong team ethos capable of delivering high quality services to clients
- A proactive attitude and an appetite to play a role in addressing complex problems, such as climate change and delivering sustainable transport systems
- NZTA Safe Systems audit experience, including completion of NZTA’s Safe System Engineering Workshop (advantageous)
- A full New Zealand driver licence (advantageous)
- Experience with AutoCAD, 3D modelling software (such as OpenRoads, Civil 3D, or 12d), GIS, traffic modelling, pavement design, or construction traffic management (advantageous)
