The Conservation Grazing Manager will develop and implement a dynamic and innovative conservation grazing strategy for Yorkshire Wildlife Trust, working closely with the regional nature reserves teams to implement our Nature Recovery Strategy, which is overseen by our Nature Recovery Committee.

Embracing modern conservation thinking, technology and a wider approach to conservation, the role holder will develop more naturalistic systems of grazing, where necessary moving the Trust away from more traditional agricultural approaches. The manager will ensure that grazing animals are available to nature reserve managers to sustain priority habitats, helping to deliver nature’s recovery across Yorkshire. This may involve ‘pulse’ grazing on smaller sites and more extensive grazing systems with a mix of species, on larger, wilder sites. The manager will take responsibility for health and safety and animal welfare, creating a culture where these are two central pillars of the grazing operation.

The manager will also collaborate internally and externally to help our grazing programme to optimise its impact. Internally, working with communications, fundraising and engagement teams, to ensure our programme is inspiring and educating our audiences.

Outside of the Trust advising partners, farmers and landowners, and generate income through professional advice, the sale of animals and other products arising from the operation.

This role will be based in either York or Pickering, and across a seven-day rota.
