Now is a a very important time to be engaging with communities as we recognise that if we are to halt the decline in wildlife, we must work collectively to restore habitats and people’s connection to nature. As Wildlife Trusts we cannot do this alone, we need the support of communities and young people to become champions of the future planet they will go on to inherit.
This role will oversee and provide direction for the delivery of existing community focused roles within the Engagement Team at the Trust, whilst looking for future opportunities to continue, expand and develop the Trust’s community focused work. The Senior Communities Officer will be responsible for overseeing elements of our community organising approach and supporting some communities directly, inspiring action for nature where people live through building relationships with communities and providing training and support.
In celebration of Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee, a partnership with the National Lottery Heritage Fund called Nextdoor Nature has been launched. Nextdoor Nature will enable the Trust to take a significant step forward in supporting one in four people taking action for wildlife in a meaningful way helping them identify new places for nature that are important to them. We will also enable communities to reclaim and create new green spaces for nature in both rural and urban areas. This role is part funder by the Nextdoor Nature collaboration.
The person will lead on creating work plans and input into the strategic direction of the team as well as looking for new funding streams to support the Trust's ongoing community work. This role will enable you to make a real difference to nature’s recovery and to be part of our vision to protect 30% of land and sea by 2030 and support one in four people taking action for wildlife.
Some evening and regular weekend working will be required, a full driving licence is essential. This is 0.6 FTE/21 hours per week position on a fixed contract until 30 June 2024.
The role will be largely based at Worcestershire Wildlife Trust, Lower Smite Farm, Hindlip, Worcester WR3 8SZ with some travel to support local communities across Worcestershire
We’re Wild About Inclusion. To us, this means inspiring, empowering and engaging people from all backgrounds, cultures, identities and abilities, to change the natural world for the better. It also means cultivating inclusive workspaces that are free from discrimination, where differences are valued, everyone can be themselves and flourish, just like nature!
