We are looking for a self-starting Head of Finance and Control to provide oversight and strategic financial leadership to Staffordshire Wildlife Trust. About the Role.
You will be able to operate in a fast-paced and often complex environment and demonstrate good judgement. You will exhibit a curiosity about the work going on across the organisation, and can share with others the impactful work of the charity.
You will develop the team, oversee charity financial reporting as well as the key controls and processes within the team, enabling the organisation to operate effectively and drive forward a long term financial plan.
This role will be crucial in transforming financial processes and systems and developing the team, all in support of delivering our 8-year strategy. You will be responsible for the Finance function in its entirety, supporting and ensuring the achievement of the organisation's strategic and financial objectives.
The role holder will focus on policy implementation and implement systems and procedures necessary for the efficient running of the finance department and the organisation generally.
The post holder will operate as the financial gatekeeper and ensure all relevant financial statutory and regulatory requirements are met.
Ideal candidates will be a fully qualified Accountant (ACC, ACA or CIMA) with previous experience of managing a small finance function. You will have experience of developing strategies as well as being able to carry out transactional work. You will be an effective communicator with experience of working with SLT and board level colleagues.
We are seeking candidates who can work across all teams and be comfortable communicating with non-finance colleagues. In addition to the technical skills, we are seeking candidates with a passion for the charity sector.

A registered charity established in 1969 we are one of 46 county Wildlife Trusts throughout the UK and are supported by over 18,500 members.
The Trust owns or manages 32 nature reserves covering an area of over 1804 hectares. Our 160 staff are based in six locations around the county including our Headquarters at Wolseley Bridge, Stafford, with our work divided up into five departments: Resources, People Engagement, Conservation Delivery, Fundraising, Communication and Membership & Commercial. The Trust has a diverse workforce of including site wardens, wildlife surveyors, community and education officers, catering, retail and administration.
In addition, we have the trading company which looks after the trading side of our business. This includes cafés at The Wolseley Centre and Westport Lake Visitor Centre, charity shops in Leek, Penkridge and Codsall and a retail shop in The Wolseley Centre.
