Practical Conservation Traineeship North Wiltshire

Reports to: Estate Officer North

Salary: Bursary £12,000 (12 monthly payments of £1000pcm)

Contract: Full Time

Hours: 37.5 hours per week (Monday to Sunday)

Based at: Lower Moor Nature Reserve, Oaksey SN16 9TW

Wiltshire Wildlife Trust is looking for 2 enthusiastic and highly motivated people to fill 2 Practical Conservation Traineeships within their Conservation and Land Management Team, 1 in the South and 1 in the North of the county. The Traineeships are aimed at people looking to gain the experience and skills that will enable them to pursue a career within conservation land management.

No formal educational qualifications or previous training is required but applicants will be expected to demonstrate enthusiasm for the chosen role, show a desire and dedication to learn new skills and be able to demonstrate the ability to work as part of a team. Trainees will be supervised by an experienced professional from the Trust throughout their training and will gain industry recognised certification including chainsaw and brushcutter tickets. Training will also include species identification, habitat management, GIS, leadership, team and personal effectiveness skills and volunteer management.

Both Traineeships will aim to start on 28th April 2025 and will run for 12 months.

Please note:

  • The training will involve both practical work outside in a range of weather conditions and desk-based office work.
  • Accommodation and transport to work locations are not offered as part of these positions.
  • There is no salaried position offered on completion of the programme.
  • Applicants will be required to hold a full driving licence at the time of application.
