Closing date: Monday 27 June 2022
Salary: Unsalaried
Contract type: Fixed term / Working hours: Part time
Location: Kent, We have an agile working policy where staff can work from home, office or other agreed remote location, but location of employment will be the individual’s nearest Kent hub.
We have an exciting opportunity to offer an 11-month volunteer training programme for aspiring Trainee Wardens looking to get some valuable practical conservation experience and training under their belt. You will work alongside an experienced Area Warden, assisting with the day-to-day management of a range of important conservation sites. This will also involve linking up with partner organisations, landowners and volunteers in carrying out an array of conservation work and improving the landscape connectivity within the project area.

Valuable experience will be gained in practical habitat management, volunteer supervision and using livestock to deliver conservation grazing.

This volunteer role would be ideal for someone seeking a career in conservation or nature reserve management; the skills and experience gained during the programme will give you a good grounding to pursue such a career. Please note that we cannot guarantee that a suitable paid role will be available at the end of your training programme.

Globally and nationally wildlife is in steep decline. We appear to be reaching critical tipping points around the loss of biodiversity as well as around climate change, both being interlinked. Human society cannot prosper without wildlife and healthy ecosystems.

Kent’s wildlife needs to be restored to much higher levels. We can no longer allow common things to become rare. We can only do this by restoring large-scale habitat from degraded land. Doing this will contribute to solving global problems. But we won’t be able to do this unless we publicly aspire to a higher level of impact and show that we can deliver this.

The role: We are looking for five Wilder Reserves Volunteer Trainee Wardens to work alongside experienced Area Wardens to assist with the day-to-day management of a range of important conservation sites, whilst gaining practical conservation experience and training. The role would be ideal for someone seeking a career in conservation or nature reserve management.

Valuable experience will be gained in practical habitat management, volunteer supervision and using livestock to deliver conservation grazing.

You: You will demonstrate an aptitude and enthusiasm for practical wildlife conservation work. A relevant environmental qualification is desirable, but NOT essential. This role comes with an extensive package of training opportunities and represents an ideal apprenticeship for those seeking a career in nature conservation.
