Business Development Manager – Environmental Markets
We are seeking an experienced business development manager to help drive a new and exciting area of work for BBOWT, tapping into new environmental markets to help fund our nature restoration activities. This includes Biodiversity Net Gain, which will be mandated through the Environment Act in 2023 and will create local markets for buying and selling biodiversity units. BBOWT want to become an instrumental player in these markets to help influence positive outcomes for nature, and to avoid these markets becoming mere compensation schemes for economic development where the environment and people lose out.
This new role will make an important contribution to BBOWT’s new strategic goal to ‘Put Nature into Recovery’. It will help us acquire new land or enter into new partnerships with other landowners, which will be pivotal to bring more land in to positive management and secure sustainable income streams for our nature recovery activities. Beyond BNG, you will help will identify emerging local environmental markets, such as voluntary carbon and nutrient neutrality.
You will work closely with in-house ecology and land management experts who will help identify suitable sites to deliver new long-term nature recovery projects, thus conservation/ecology skills are not essential for this role. Your skillset will include business development, contract execution, and project management to help implement these new projects using revenue generated from environmental markets. Experience in building and maintaining effective stakeholder relationships will be critical in helping establish BBOWT as a trusted market player.
You will be a highly organised self-starter with a passion for nature and innovation, to help drive forward this new workstream. Knowledge of environmental markets is not a prerequisite, as you will be supported by staff with in-house expertise. You will also be provided with training and development opportunities to learn on the job.
