We are looking for an expert copywriter and editor, with experience of leading a small team to create impactful content that will engage and empower new and existing audiences to act for nature.

Who we are

The Wildlife Trusts are a federated movement of 46 individual charities, supported by a central charity, the Royal Society of Wildlife Trusts. Together we have more than 900,000 members, 38,000 volunteers and 3,400 staff across the UK. We are at a pivotal moment in our 110-year history, with an ambitious new Strategy 2030 setting out a vision of nature in recovery, with abundant, diverse wildlife and natural processes creating wilder landscapes where people and nature thrive.

The next few years will be critical in determining what kind of world we will all live in. We need to reverse the loss of wildlife and put nature into recovery at scale as a matter of urgency if we are to prevent climate and ecological disaster. This will require big, bold changes in the way we think and operate, and the development of a strong, collaborative culture. It will require key stakeholders and the public to take action for nature’s recovery.

About you

As Content Manager you will play a vital role in bringing about nature’s recovery by helping us to inspire and empower people to take meaningful action for nature and climate. You will be an enthusiastic and talented communicator, with demonstrable experience of writing and editing content to a high quality. You will have the experience and skills to manage a small team tasked with the content production of all our external facing engagement campaigns, digital channels (websites and social media), magazines (Wildlife Watch and Natural World) and communication toolkits to support the delivery work of colleagues across all teams. You will be passionate about content production and keep up to date with best practice – ensuring that all content produced is audience and channel appropriate and delivers impact.

You will need to be strategic by nature, someone who easily sees the big picture and able to think on your feet: ready to communicate the big bold goals and ambitions of The Wildlife Trusts Strategy 2030 in an accessible way and as comfortable supporting your team in developing messages calling for urgent Government action as providing wildlife gardening advice. With digital communications playing a central role in dissemination of our messaging, you will lead your team to be creative in testing new content – using analytics to inform and adapt content to engage new audiences and empower existing audiences to deepen their engagement with The Wildlife Trusts.

You and your team will be responsible for connecting thousands of people with The Wildlife Trusts each year through our flagship public engagement campaign, 30 Days Wild, as well as partnership initiatives including Wild About Gardens, alongside a host of other initiatives to Content Manager JD August 2022 Page 2 of 6 help us to achieve our ambition of 1 in 4 people taking action. To ensure the success of these campaigns, you will need to foster excellent relationships with colleagues and stakeholders, developing and managing creative partnerships to produce mutually beneficial content, and regularly working with colleagues from across The Wildlife Trusts movement to establish support for centrally co-ordinated campaigns. Developing and sharing best practice is key to how we work, so you must embrace a share, learn and improve attitude.
