We have an exciting opportunity for a passionate individual to join our small reserve management team at Roding Valley Meadows.

We have an exciting opportunity for an individual who passionate about nature conservation, habitat management and engagement with the public to join our small reserve management team at Roding Valley Meadows.

Roding Valley Meadows forms one of the largest continuous areas of flower-rich hay meadows in Essex and with the River Roding flowing through the reserve some of these meadows are also important floodplain meadows. Several of the meadows and an area of fen are of national important and protected as a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI).

The reserve covers over 60 hectares and in addition to the meadows supports a long-established system of hedges and ditches, woodland, scrub, veteran trees and ponds. The reserve attracts a large number of visitors who use the reserve for walking, general outdoor recreation and to enjoy the wildlife.

The Assistant Ranger will work alongside and assist the Ranger in the management and enhancement of Roding Valley Meadows through practical conservation management with support from our passionate team of conservation volunteers. The post holder will play a vital role in the implementation of a site management plan, repair and maintenance works and targeted wildlife recording and monitoring surveys. The ideal candidate will be passionate about nature and conducting positive habitat management to enhance conditions for wildlife. We are looking for a self-motivated person who enjoys engaging with the public and can work as part of a small team to deliver optimum management of the reserve for its wildlife value and visitor experience.

The position is a permanent role working 22.5 hours per week from 9:00am to 5:00m over three days (flexible) between Monday to Friday. The starting salary for this post is £12,027.60 per annum (FTE £20,046.00).
