Are you looking for a new challenge? If you have experience in media and would like to work for one of the UK’s best-loved nature charities, then we have an exciting opportunity for you!

The Media Officer will work to promote The Wildlife Trusts and our work, activities and messages to UK audiences through the national media, with a view to influencing key stakeholders, public opinion and action for nature’s recovery. You will also develop and manage strategic relationships with the media and work to actively protect and enhance The Wildlife Trusts’ brand and reputation.

Who we are

The Wildlife Trusts are a grassroots movement of 870,000 members, 38,000 volunteers and 2,800 staff across the UK. We are at an exciting moment in our 110-year history, with an ambitious new strategy setting out a vision of nature in recovery with abundant, diverse wildlife and natural processes creating wilder landscapes where both people and nature thrive.

As part of addressing the combined nature, climate, and health crises it is no longer enough to just think about slowing the loss of the natural world and protecting what remains of our wildlife. Decline must be stopped, and reversed, and nature put into recovery to restore biodiversity, stabilise the climate, create an education system built on nature connection, protect the health and wellbeing of billions of people - and much more besides.

This will only happen when people are enabled and inspired to be part of the change that is needed, and to encourage those with power to do the same. Nature’s recovery must be done by and with people - inclusive, welcoming, diverse, growing communities of people - if it’s going to happen at the scale and pace required to make a difference. And of course, while making positive changes for wildlife, people and communities will experience the many benefits in return.

About you

You will be part of a tight and dedicated central media team. We are looking for an innovative and creative individual who has strong writing, editing, sub-editing and proofreading skills. You will have previous experience of generating news stories, features and publicising campaigns. You will also need to enjoy working in a fast-paced environment, be organised and resourceful and have an eye for written detail.

We value passion, respect, trust, integrity and pragmatic activism and strength in diversity. Whilst we are passionate in promoting our aims, we are not judgemental, and we are inclusive.

We want our people to be as diverse as nature, so we particularly encourage applications from people who are underrepresented within our sector, including people from minority ethnic backgrounds and people with disabilities. We are committed to creating a movement that recognises and truly values individual differences and identities.

As a Disability Confident employer, we are committed to offering an interview to anyone with a disability that meets all the essential criteria for the post. Please let us know if you require any adjustments to make our recruitment process more accessible.

This role may be subject to a DBS check.
