Do you have a passion for wildlife and a commitment to protecting one of the UK’s most iconic species?

We are looking for a dedicated Red Squirrel Ranger to join our team to help deliver the Red Squirrel Recovery Network project and help safeguard red squirrels across north Merseyside and west Lancashire.

Working closely with the Red Squirrel Officers, you will deliver grey squirrel control and support vital monitoring of both red and grey squirrels. You will play a key role in working with local landowners, communities, and volunteers — building strong relationships and promoting red squirrel conservation at every opportunity.

This role involves a mix of practical conservation skills and people engagement. You’ll be undertaking grey squirrel control (including trapping and shooting, in line with UK legislation), setting up monitoring cameras, recording data in the field, and training and supporting volunteers. You’ll need to be confident working independently in challenging outdoor conditions as well as part of a team.

This is a fantastic opportunity to make a real difference to red squirrel conservation, contributing to a landscape-scale project which spans across Northern England and Southern Scotland.

We offer a friendly and flexible working environment with the chance to be a part of the largest nature conservation body in the area, working together to improve our region for nature as well as engaging and inspiring people to connect and take action for wildlife.
