The Wilder Blean Project is a ground breaking and exciting project based at our West Blean and Thornden Woods reserve. It uses the principles of Wilding to reinstate missing natural processes to over 450ha of UK woodland. To do this we have introduced a range of ecosystem engineers including European Bison, and other conservation grazers, long horn cattle, Exmoor ponies and Iron age Pigs.

Wilder Blean project is first in the UK to use European Bison as an ecosystem engineer for conservation management purposes, and has attracted national and international interest, we continue to engage with media and advocate with a wide range of interested parties.

The Job:
As the Wilder Blean Site Manager, you will lead the team of Bison and Conservation Grazing rangers to effectively manage the routine operations of the project. Managing and maintaining the site and all the project infrastructure. Monitoring the health and welfare of the bison and conservation grazers. Ensuring the safety of the site and compliance with relevant legislation. Delivering engagement activities from walking tour safaris’ to group visits and advocacy events. Ensuring and enabling a wide range of monitoring can be undertaken through facilitating access and collecting samples.

Someone who is committed and passionate about restoring habitats and landscapes. With drive and enthusiasm to take practical actions, using innovative approaches to conservation and land management to deliver much needed, positive change for wildlife.

You will have skills and experience of undertaking and delivering practical site management ideally within woodland habitats, An understanding and experience of working with large grazing animals. Experience of leading and management of a small team to safely and effectively achieve your goals
