We have an exciting opportunity for a Reserves Manager to join our Nature Reserves & Natural Capital Team at Essex Wildlife Trust.

We have an exciting opportunity for a Reserves Manager to join our Nature Reserves & Natural Capital Team in the new Conversation Directorate at Essex Wildlife Trust to lead on Essex’s nature recovery and the creation of a Wilder Essex.

The Reserves Manager South will cover the south Essex area, stretching from Southend to Epping, and will be responsible for the habitat management, and the favourable conservation condition of Essex Wildlife Trust’s nature reserves and Nature Discovery Parks. These include reserves that form part of Essex’s internationally important coast, like the ancient grazing marshes and saltmarsh of the stunning Bluehouse Farm. Inland there are many other Sites of Special Scientific Interest and other wildlife-rich places. Amongst these are Langdon and Chafford Gorges Nature Discovery Parks, two of the region’s most important and diverse grassland-mosaic sites.

This key role at the Trust will ensure the recording of conservation management impacts on the biodiversity of the reserves, working closely with colleagues to ensure compliance with all applicable environmental and statutory land management regulations and specific legal requirements relating to reserves’ management.

Our nature reserves are open to visitors and are welcoming and engaging places for people to visit. The post holder will work with the Head of Nature Reserves & Natural Capital and the Engagement Directorate, to maximise the visitor experience, monitor recreational impacts and implementing measures to protect the natural capital of the Trust’s landholdings.

This role is well suited to applicants who are passionate in preparing and delivering wildlife conservation operations on nature reserves in the UK. People management skills are essential as is knowledge of wildlife law, environmental and statutory management regulations, and agri-environment compliance requirements.

This role is a permanent full-time position with a starting salary of £38,256.98 per annum. Essex Wildlife Trust is currently trialling hybrid-working arrangements with a view to implementing a workplace policy in 2023. Further details of the hybrid-working arrangements will be shared at interview. The role will require travelling to our reserves and Nature Discovery Parks across Essex.

Essex Wildlife Trust is the county’s leading conservation charity, committed to protecting wildlife and inspiring a lifelong love of nature; and we would love you to join our committed and enthusiastic team. Our values are Inspiring, Collaborative, United and Professional.

To apply, please complete the application form on our website by 9:00am on Monday 23rd January 2023. Interviews will be held on 06 February 2023.
