We have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and passionate Ranger to join us at our beautiful Nature Discovery Park at Langdon near Basildon.

The site comprises extensive areas of woodland species-rich meadows, lakes and former plotland gardens covering an area of 461 acres. Over 350 species of flowering plants have been recorded, and 30 butterflies including white admirals, green hairstreaks, marbled whites and grizzled skippers. In the summer there is the opportunity to enjoy Turtle Doves, Nightingales and Woodcock, while in the winter thrushes and finches can be seen.

The nature reserve occupies some of the highest land in the county, where an abundance of wildlife can be enjoyed. Each area of the reserve encompasses its own character and priorities for wildlife, these areas are namely Dunton Plotlands, Langdon Lake and Meadows, Lincewood, Willow Park, Marks Hill and Hoppits Shaw. Our new and sustainable Nature Discovery Centre situated at Langdon is of national importance for wildlife and as such is protected as a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI). The site is also the largest inland reserve managed by Essex Wildlife Trust.

The ideal candidate will be passionate about nature and conducting positive habitat management to enhance conditions for wildlife. We are looking for a self-motivated person who enjoys engaging with the public and can work as part of a small team including our committed volunteers to deliver optimum management of the reserve for its wildlife value and visitor experience.

Essex Wildlife Trust are the county’s leading conservation charity, committed to protecting wildlife and inspiring a lifelong love of nature; and we would love you to join our enthusiastic team. Our values are Inspiring, Collaborative, United and Professional.
