Job Title: Instrument & Automation Engineer

Division: Weir Minerals, Stirred Mill Team

Location: Baden, Switzerland

Purpose of Role: As part of our growth strategy at Weir, we are looking for an experienced Instrument & Automation Engineer to join our team in Baden and contribute to the design, development, and implementation of advanced electrical systems for comminution technologies, with a focus on Stirred Milling. This role will collaborate across global teams and with OEM partners to ensure delivery of high-performance, energy-efficient, and reliable solutions for both Original Equipment (OE) and Aftermarket projects. You will be involved in shaping the future of sustainable mining through innovation in electrical design and systems integration.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Instrumentation System Design: Develop and document designs for, instrumentation systems for the successful operation of Weir Stirred mills, including the management of 3rd party Vendor instrumentation designs.
  • Control System Design: Develop and document designs for a control system including hardware and software principally supplied by Siemens or Rockwell but not limited to these two main suppliers.
  • Project Support: Contribute to OE and Aftermarket projects by providing electrical engineering expertise, ensuring compliance with technical standards and customer specifications.
  • Cross-functional Integration: Collaborate with internal teams such as R&D, manufacturing, procurement, and project management to support effective product lifecycle development.

Job Knowledge/Education and Qualifications:

  • Education: Electrical Bachelor’s degree or similar qualifications, such Robotics or Mechatronics.
  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years in instrumentation and control engineering, ideally in the mining, heavy machinery, or industrial sectors.
  • Technical Proficiency: Familiarity with latest developments in instrumentation and control design and compliance to standards (e.g., IEC, UL, CE) where applicable.
  • Software Skills: Proficient in MS Office and programming systems such as those supplied by Siemens and Rockwell.
  • Team Collaboration: Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work across teams and functions.
  • Problem-solving: Analytical mindset with a proactive approach to solving complex engineering problems.
  • Added Value: Previous field or site-based exposure in a heavy industrial or mining environment is a plus.
