Are you passionate about using strategic communications to engage influential individuals and organizations in the environmental space? Do you consider yourself a communications generalist who can easily hop between drafting engaging tweets and employee engagement emails? Do you have a knack for putting processes and structures in place that help maximize the impact marketing and communications can have? The Nature Conservancy seeks a Communications and Marketing Manager to join our rapidly growing team in Europe, working closely with the new Communications and Marketing Director to help implement a new vision and articulation of TNC in Europe.

While a member of the TNC Europe team, the position will also be embedded in the Global Marketing and Communications Division, collaborating with others across the organization as well as with external partners to grow the profile and impact of TNC’s conservation work in Europe and globally. This will entail rapid relationship-building and putting new processes in place that will help drive awareness of the TNC brand with key European audiences – and raise the profile of TNC’s work in Europe across the rest of the organization – through bespoke campaigns and amplification of Global campaigns and assets.

The role can be based from any of TNC’s office locations in Europe: London, Brussels, or Berlin. Applicants should have professional written and spoken fluency in both English and German, while other European language skills would also be highly beneficial in this role.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

The Communications and Marketing Manager will be responsible for helping to implement the marketing and communications strategy for Europe and develop internal communications processes for a growing team. Reporting to the Communications and Marketing Director, they will help facilitate on-going communication between members of the TNC Europe team, the Global Marketing and Communications Division, as well as external stakeholders – proactively identifying communications needs and drafting plans that support TNC’s overall mission and our communications objectives for Europe. A succinct and compelling writer with an eye for detail, this person will research, write, and distribute a wide variety of communications materials, including but not limited to key messages, communications plans, speeches, briefing documents, social media copy, blogs and op-eds, fact sheets, and more.

A proactive problem-solver, they will have a proven track record of developing and implementing communications plans and projects, bring advanced digital communications skills, stellar project management and organizational skills, a strong understanding of key European audience groups, and be able to collaborate with various subject matter experts. They will also have an eye for a great story, an understanding of media relations, and be able to thrive in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment. The ideal candidate will have proven success working within a matrixed and multi-faceted team structure, able to manage multiple projects at one time while collaborating with diverse internal and external partners to meet mutual goals.

RESPONSIBILITIES & SCOPE

  • Support implementation of the newly developed communications strategy across our conservation, corporate, policy, fundraising, and finance work.
  • Liaise with internal communications and build an employee engagement plan for Europe, helping elevate awareness of the work of the Europe team and wins among staff and leadership.
  • Build out calendar of milestones and events for TNC Europe and project management processes to help enable smooth execution.
  • Manage TNC Europe’s new social channels and content for a new quarterly newsletter.
  • Develop and help execute communications plans for key project and policy milestones.
  • Draft a wide variety of communications materials as outlined above.
  • Refresh internal and external TNC Europe websites and collateral.
  • Create knowledge management system across TNC Europe teams.
  • Prepare regular reports for TNC teams on progress towards our communications objectives.
  • Manage external vendors where necessary to execute projects and deliverables.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Professional spoken and written fluency in English and German.
  • Bachelor’s degree in related field and a minimum 5 years’ related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience cultivating and managing internal and external relationships.
  • Experience organizing and coordinating multiple projects.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills, with a keen editor’s eye.
  • Experience managing social media accounts and email marketing.
  • A collaborative style and positive mindset.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Professional spoken and written fluency in French and/or any other European language.
  • Media relations experience with key German-language outlets.
  • Multi-cultural or cross-cultural experience preferred.
  • Experience implementing and measuring communication and engagement plans/strategies.
  • Familiarity with a variety of marketing and communication technologies and best practices.
  • Knowledge and application of current and evolving trends in both internal and external communications.
  • Experience leading or managing projects.
