WHAT WE CAN ACHIEVE TOGETHER


The Finance Director will work towards meeting the strategic priorities of the MN, ND, SD chapter by developing and coordinating financial plans, and overseeing day-to-day finances. They are responsible for development and implementation of annual budgets. They will also manage administrative tasks finance, including processing forms and preparing financial reports and forecasts. They will be responsible for board and Chapter Director engagement in the financial management and financial sustainability of the chapter, including the presentation of financial information at board meetings. They work with the Philanthropy team in preparing grant proposals and reports. They will contribute to the development of new guidelines and report to senior leadership on functional activities. The Finance Director will work in close cooperation with any or all of the following: Conservancy staff, donors, trustees, vendors, public agencies, financial institutions, and legal and accounting professionals. They will adhere to and advise on the organization's policies and procedures. They will provide advice, recommendations, and broad training related to finance. The Finance Director will maintain expert knowledge of the systems and resources utilized by the team and apply knowledge to managing support and planning communications related to the resources. They will manage documentation, initiate complex processes, and serve as key team member for the enhancement of systems and tools. They will lead diverse activities, analyze situations, evaluate alternatives, project outcomes, and implement solutions in order to improve effectiveness.


The Finance Director manages two finance staff. They serve on the Chapter’s Leadership Team (LT) and are supervised by the Deputy Chapter Director, Culture & Operations. The preferred job location is the Twin Cities metro area in Minnesota however candidates from the greater Minnesota area, North Dakota, and South Dakota will also be considered. The starting hiring range for this position is $95,000 - $100,000 dependent on experience and location.

WHAT YOU'LL BRING

  • Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Accounting or Business Administration and 5 years' related experience or equivalent combination.
  • Experience with accounting principles, practices, and regulations.
  • Experience recruiting, supervising, and developing staff.
  • Experience with GAAP.
  • Experience, coursework or other training with U.S. Federal Uniform Guidance, state and local regulations, multilateral and international regulations, and standard contract clauses, as applicable.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Multi-lingual skills and/or multi-cultural experience appreciated.
  • Technical expert on complex accounting/financial issues. Advanced expertise in Microsoft Excel.
  • Experience monitoring for and ensuring compliance with organizational policy, applicable law and regulation, and finance/accounting/management best practice.
  • Experience analyzing a regulatory framework and applying it to the situation at hand.
  • Expert knowledge of GAAP and/or relevant regulatory framework.
  • Nonprofit GAAP accounting experience; and/or understanding of best practices for nonprofit management.
  • Experience evaluating the adequacy and effectiveness of management controls; interpreting guidelines and analyzing factual information to adapt or modify processes as needed.
  • Ability to resolve complex issues independently within program area.
  • Experience acting as a resource to others to solve problems.
  • CPA may be preferred.
