WHO WE ARE
The mission of The Nature Conservancy (TNC) is to conserve the lands and waters upon which all life depends. As a science-based organization, we develop innovative, on-the-ground solutions to the world’s toughest environmental challenges so that people and nature can thrive. Our work is guided by our values, which include a commitment to diversity and respect for people, communities, and cultures. From a rewarding mission to career development and flexible schedules, there are many reasons to love life #insideTNC. Want to know more? Check out our TNC Talent playlist on YouTube to hear stories from staff or visit Glassdoor.
One of TNC’s primary goals is to cultivate an inclusive work environment so that employees around the globe have a sense of belonging and feel that their unique contributions are valued. We know we’ll only achieve our mission by hiring and engaging a diverse staff that reflects the communities in which we work. Recognizing that people bring talent and skills that have been developed outside the scope of a job, we take a holistic approach to recruitment that considers life experience in addition to the professional requirements listed in our postings. Please apply – we’d love to hear from you. To quote a popular saying at TNC, “you’ll join for the mission, and you’ll stay for the people.”
WHAT WE CAN ACHIEVE TOGETHER
The Articles of Dedication Specialist intern will organize legal and other documents to support upcoming TNC requests for DNR and the Governor to approve dedication of conservation lands owned by TNC. Articles of Dedication, once approved by the Governor, provide the highest level of protection possible in the State of Wisconsin. We also will work together to make our preserves welcoming to all, including minority and marginalized groups.
WE'RE LOOKING FOR YOU
Preparing draft Articles of Dedication will include reviewing materials from land management and land protection files, coordinating with other staff as needed to summarize key facts and submitting draft packets to TNC legal staff for review.
A secondary work stream will be assisting with research and review of Wisconsin TNC preserves to ensure they reflect our organizational values, flagging any that reveal culturally insensitive or racist origins.
If time and timing of the internship permits, the Articles of Dedication Specialist may also assist with purging unnecessary paper land protection documents from our files in preparation for our effort to digitize our files.
Work from our Madison Office at least 50% of the time, with option to work remotely the rest of the time if desired. Flexibility as to exactly which hours or days are spent in the office is generally possible. This is a full-time, 12-week summer internship position with an approximate start date of June 5th, working 35 hours a week from June through September 2023. This position is paid $17.00 per hour. Housing is not provided, and transportation to and from the office and work sites is the responsibility of the applicant.
