WHAT WE CAN ACHIEVE TOGETHER


The Seed and Restoration Technician leads native seed initiatives at Dunn Ranch Prairie under the strategic guidance of the preserve managers. This position will coordinate volunteers for seed collection and collaboration with regional partners for landscape scale seed projects. The Seed and Restoration Technician also provides support to the maintenance to the preserve including areas frequented by the visiting public, removes exotic species and/or monitors and researches species, maintains tools and equipment, and operates heavy machinery.

Responsibilities and Scope
  • Lead native seed harvest, seed cleaning, processing, and planting.
  • Communicate and interact with regional conservation partners on seed collaboration projects.
  • Maintain and repair of seed harvest equipment.
  • Coordinate volunteers for seed collection.
  • Assist in carrying out Community Health Index (CHI) surveys on preserve lands.
  • Contribute to preserve stewardship including invasive species management, prescribed fire, bison management, mowing, and additional stewardship tasks.
  • Support maintenance of preserve office, facilities, and multi-use vehicles.
  • Maintain communications with local vendors, TNC staff, volunteers, and those visiting the Dunn Ranch site.
  • May work in variable weather conditions, at remote locations, on difficult and hazardous terrain, and under physically demanding circumstances.
  • Requires considerable physical exertion and/or muscular strain.
  • May require long hours in isolated settings.
  • May be asked to attend trainings and seminars in surrounding states.

WHAT YOU'LL BRING


  • AS/Technical or vocational degree in science-related field and 1-year related experience in custodial and ecological land management or similar field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience recognizing plant species.
  • Experience with natural systems.
  • Experience in ecological land management principles.
  • Experience operating and/or repairing various types of equipment and machinery.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Multi-lingual skills and multi-cultural or cross-cultural experience appreciated.
  • 1 – 2 years related experience in custodial and ecological land management or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Some experience managing volunteers or entry level staff.
  • Ability to recognize plant and animal species to complete preserve management activities.
  • Knowledge/understanding of current trends and practices in conservation, land management and natural resource preservation/conservation or similar field.
  • Ability to complete tasks independently with respect to timeline(s).
  • Working knowledge of common software applications (e.g.; Word, Excel, Web browsers).
  • Communicating clearly via written, spoken and graphical means in English and other relevant languages.

SALARY INFORMATION


The starting pay range for a candidate selected for this position is generally within the range of $18.50 - $21.50 hourly rate commensurate with experience. This range only applies to candidates whose country of employment is the USA. Where a successful candidate’s actual pay will fall within this range will be based on a variety of factors, including, for example, the candidate's location, qualifications, specific skills, and experience. Please note countries outside the USA would have a different pay range in the local currency based on the local labor market, and not tied to USA pay or ranges. Your geographic location will be confirmed during the recruitment.
