Indiana Finance Assistant

The Finance Assistant provides a variety of routine and non-routine finance and accounting-related tasks for the Indiana Chapter. They administer and maintain finance/accounting activities in accordance with TNC policies and procedures and best practices in financial management. The Finance Assistant performs finance-related administrative tasks, including accounts payable, cash receipt, contract and grant reporting, processing forms, and tracking through a variety of reports. They have expertise in day-to-day transaction review, coding accuracy, and creating custom reports as needed. They are well versed in the financial systems utilized by the team and Conservancy to process transactions and complete tasks. While knowledge of day-to-day financial operations is key for the position, strong customer service is also essential. The Finance Assistant provides guidance and supports team members in their understanding of financial policies and procedures to ensure accuracy in vendor payments, expense reports, and other tasks. The Finance Assistant communicates with staff in various programs across the Conservancy and with external vendors. They also communicate and distribute information to assist staff in making decisions, solving problems, and improving workflow. They are proactive, responsive, and consider the wider operations of the business unit when making decisions. The Finance Assistant may take on special assignments as identified or provide additional financial administration for the Midwest Division.
Responsibilities & Scope
- Learns and applies TNC policies and procedures, reinforcing consistency while providing support and answering questions for other team members.
- Ensure accurate processing of income and expenses, as well as pulling financial reports from the general ledger and other ad hoc financial reporting for the Indiana Chapter or Midwest Division.
- Assists in review and processing of contract payments, evaluating supporting documentation, and tracking payments to date for the Indiana Chapter or Midwest Division.
- Supports managers by performing first review of expense reports and timesheets as needed.
- Supports the onboarding of new staff members with local finance training on expense requests.
- Maintains physical and electronic financial records in accordance with TNC document retention policies.
- May manage special projects and/or requests that address key contract or financial issues.
This is a full-time (35 hours per week), hourly position based at our office in Indianapolis, Indiana with remote work available up to 2 days a week. Day and overnight travel across Indiana and the Midwest may be required occasionally to attend meetings and trainings.

What You’ll Bring:
Associate's Degree in Accounting or related field and 2 years' related work experience; or equivalent combination.
Experience in database management or producing reports, or in the use of automated systems or touch key calculator.
Experience working with basic principles in accounting or in analyzing financial figures.
Salary Information:
The starting pay range for a candidate selected for this position is generally within the range of $50,500 – $53,000 for annual base salary . This range only applies to candidates whose country of employment is the USA. Where a successful candidate’s actual pay will fall within this range will be based on a variety of factors, including, for example, the candidate's location, qualifications, specific skills, and experience. Please note countries outside the USA would have a different pay range in the local currency based on the local labor market, and not tied to USA pay or ranges. Your geographic location will be confirmed during the recruitment.
