TNC’s Volgenau Virginia Coast Reserve team is looking for an intern to assist with strengthening our relationship with Spanish speaking communities on the Eastern Shore. This person will work with staff and local community partners to build connections to our outreach and education opportunities. Role will involve working outside, boating, and potential exposure to sun and insects. The intern will also have the opportunity the gain hands-on experience working with our science and conservation staff.

The Spanish Language Outreach Intern is a full-time, paid, 10-week internship. This position is based in Nassawadox, Virginia. The internship will run from May-August 2023 and shared housing accommodations may be available. Main responsibilities include:

  • Translating outreach and education materials from English to Spanish
  • Using existing and new relationships to connect the Spanish speaking community on the Eastern Shore with outreach and education opportunities
  • Working with staff to plan and host a public outreach event during Latino Conservation Week (July 15 – 23, 2023)
  • Assisting as needed with VVCR summer education programs including working with youth


The Nature Conservancy’s Volgenau Virginia Coast Reserve ( is one of the last expanses of coastal wilderness on the U.S. East Coast, encompassing over 40,000 acres of natural landscape throughout the Eastern Shore of Virginia. Help us connect local communities to all this amazing land has to offer!
This position will be part of our Summer 2023 intern cohort and will receive an orientation, professional development resources, exposure to TNC lands and preserves, and real-world work experience to further academic and/or career goals. Intern term runs from May 30th – August 11th 2023.


  • Current college student or recent graduate
  • Fluent in written and oral Spanish and English
  • Experience with public speaking and community outreach, preferably with Spanish-speaking communities
  • Must have valid driver’s license, safe driving record (per TNC Auto Safety Program) and provide own transportation and personal automobile insurance
  • Must meet all TNC Youth Qualification requirements and background check

Current funding provides for $16.50 per hour. Few benefits. Assistance with housing may be available


This position requires a valid driver's license and compliance with TNC’s Auto Safety Program. Employees may not drive Conservancy-owned/leased vehicles, rental cars, or personal vehicles on behalf of the Conservancy if considered "high risk drivers."
