WHAT WE CAN ACHIEVE TOGETHER
The Zumwalt Prairie Preserve Steward conducts Preserve management activities and participates in the implementation of conservation programs with other staff and partners. The Steward’s essential functions include implementation of planned management activities on the Zumwalt Prairie Preserve. These activities include livestock grazing lease, invasive plant, hunting, and fire management. The Steward also monitors grazing outcomes and grassland conditions, maintains facilities and Preserve areas frequented by the visiting public, maintains tools and equipment, and operates vehicles and machinery. The work takes place at remote locations, in some cases on difficult terrain and under physically demanding circumstances and variable weather conditions.

We are looking for an individual to join our Zumwalt Prairie team who is motivated by the prospect of maintaining and improving the condition of lands, waters and our human communities. This is an opportunity for a person that brings strong land management, collaboration, and communication skills to contribute to community-based conservation in a working lands context. The work is focused on the Zumwalt Prairie Preserve and the surrounding landscape, based out of our Enterprise, Oregon office. On-site housing is not required but may be provided by TNC.

WHAT YOU'LL BRING
- BA/BS/AS/Technical or vocational degree in science-related field and 1 year of related experience in custodial and ecological land management or similar field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience with grassland ecosystems and the services they provide.
- Experience in ecological land management principles.
- Experience operating and/or repairing various types of equipment and machinery.
- Ability to meet all TNC Youth Qualification requirements and background checks.
- Must have a valid driver's license. Please indicate this in your resume.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Multi-lingual skills and multi-cultural or cross-cultural experience appreciated.
- 1 – 2 years related experience in ecological land management that includes livestock or ranch management and invasives species management, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Some experience managing entry level staff or volunteers.
- Knowledge/understanding of current trends and practices in conservation, land management and natural resource preservation/conservation or similar field.
- Working knowledge of common software applications (e.g.; Word, Excel, Web browsers).
- Basic understanding of ESRI suite of GIS software applications.
- Interest and ability to gain FFT2 fire qualifications within a year of hiring.
- Communicating clearly via written, spoken and graphical means in English and other relevant languages.

SALARY INFORMATION
The starting rate is $24.51 to $26.71 /hour, depending on qualifications and experience.
