The GIS Analyst manages and maintains conservation databases and provides technical support in GIS or other relational database technologies to Conservancy staff. This position will deliver services to Staff in Southern Andes and Argentina Business Units.


The GIS Analyst participates in conservation planning at various levels, develops methods for mapping and classifying ecosystems and data management; includes developing and maintaining all documentation for data and data management. They perform data analysis; designs and produces advanced complex queries and professional reports, processes spatial and other relational data sets derived from cartographic and tabular source material, and provides hardware/software support. The Conservation Information Manager III develops and delivers training to staff individually and in groups, produces maps and other graphic products and reports. They develop and maintains GIS library and/or database products library and compiles, assembles and maintains land protection, biodiversity and management information from various sources. Also need to participate and coordinate field work in both countries and be able to generate field information related to conservation projects. They must have the availability to travel.


  • Develop GIS image analysis, complex spatial analysis, data modeling and landscape scenario analysis and maintain and populate databases.
  • Develop cartography products for teams (Conservation, Development, e.g.) in Chile and Argentina
  • Work within a team in remotes locations and
  • May help develop and manage work plans and project budgets.
  • May negotiate and contract with vendors and consultants and review products.
  • Ensures integrity of both data collection and management relating to conservation projects and project statistics.
  • Under limited supervision acts independently, resolves complex issues within the program area and. may act as a resource to others.
  • Performs fieldwork to collect data that may include areas with variable weather conditions, at remote locations, in hazardous terrain and under physically demanding circumstances.
  • Support the updating process of the Shared Conservation Agenda HUB by supplying the relevant information of the projects they participate
  • Support statistical and geospatial analysis and provide rigorous interpretations of findings.
  • Collaboratively draft and edit reports and publications based on the data collected and analyzed.


  • MS or BS degree and certification in related field and 3 years related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience managing, maintaining and populating databases and manual files.
  • Experience with interpretation of image analysis, complex spatial analysis, data modeling and landscape scenario analysis.
  • Experience as team member and delivering products in multiple projects.
  • Experience operating GIS software, analyzing data and producing data reports and creating maps. Demonstrable experience in ESRI Software.
  • Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, Access and Web Browsers.
  • Complete COVID-19 vaccination status


  • 3-5 years related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Working knowledge of legal real estate documents.
  • Experience in the following areas: interpretation of image analysis, complex spatial analysis, data modeling and landscape scenario analysis.
  • Experience in GIS tools like Google Earth Engine, ArcGIS Pro, Webmaps, dashboards, among others
  • Knowledge of current trends and practices in relevant discipline(s) and geographic region(s).
  • Experience collaborating with other parties to obtain different data sources.
  • Managing and prioritizing tasks from multiple sources and meeting deadlines.
  • Communicating clearly via written, spoken, and graphical means in English and other relevant languages.
  • Ability to go to the field and data collection.
