The Sustainability Facilities Manager position is responsible for the development and implementation of a state-wide infrastructure and maintenance plan for all facilities in owned and managed by Colorado Business Unit, including offices and preserves. The Sustainability Facilities Manager ensures facility-related projects move the Colorado Business Unit towards increased sustainability via reduced carbon emissions, waste reduction,water conservation,improved air quality,and environmentally conscious purchasing. The Sustainability FacilitiesManager provides technical leadership and support to the Colorado Business Unit by recommending, planning, and implementing sustainable facilities management strategies. They work with the Director of Finance and Operations and the Asset Management Team to provide recommendations for prioritizing and scheduling maintenance, repairs, replacement, and capital improvements. The Sustainability Facilities Manager executes approved facilities plans and is responsible for designing and implementing all projects to improve environmental sustainability, advance the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Action Plan and ensure compliancewith ADA guidelines and laws. They train, direct, and supervise activities of assigned staff and volunteers, ensuring adherence to established policies, procedures, and standards. They prepare, submit, justify, and work within approved facility and project budgets while supporting the development of long-term facilities management operating and capital budgets. The Sustainability Facilities Manger sets realistic deadlines and manages timelines to those deadlines and will adapt process for continuous facility management improvement. They will provide guidance based on existing knowledge of facilities management practices and on-going learning of market trends and best practices. This position reports to the Director of Finance and Operations and will generally divide their time 25% for Boulder office facility management and 75% for preserve facility management.This position requires up to 50% travel and flexible work hours as needed. The work environment may be invariable weather conditions, at remote locations, on difficult and hazardous terrain, and under physically demanding circumstances.

They should havestrong communication and collaboration skills and experience designing, organizing, and directing complex projects.   • The equivalent combination of a Bachelor’s degree and 3 years’ experiencein construction trades, Journeyman level construction or maintenance experience.
  • Experience generating reports and analyzing and interpreting data.
  • Experience managing and implementing multiple projects.
  • Experience with business process analysis and/or improvement.
  • Experience with current technology in Facilities Management
  • Experience working with cross-functional teams.
  • Valid driver’s license


  • Multi-lingual skills and multi-cultural or cross-cultural experiences are appreciated.
  • Thorough knowledge of the practices, procedures, materials, tools, and equipment used in facilities management.
  • Thorough knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions for facilities management.
  • Considerable knowledge of the current trends in sustainability facilities management.
  • Knowledge of local, state, building code requirements.
  • Strong organization skills, accuracy, attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks
  • Demonstrated experience being proactive to identify problems and propose solutions.
  • Ability to plan and direct the work of the staff and volunteers engaged in carrying out generalized and specialized technical service functions.
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel and Teams) to communicate and execute responsibilities.
  • Experience with project management tools and techniques.
  • Ability to implement complex processes.
  • Ability to use existing technology to achieve desired results.
  • Experience interpreting guidelines to achieve desired results.
  • Demonstrated experience using diplomacy and tact to build strong relationships and motivate staff and volunteers.

The Sustainability Facilities Manager will be based out of TNC’s office in Boulder, Colorado with the option of in-office or flexible (i.e., hybrid) work arrangements. A vehicle owned or leased by The Nature Conservancy will be assigned to this position.


The starting salary will be based on experience, knowledge, and location. The starting salary range for this position is $69,500 to $74,500.


This position requires a valid driver's license and compliance with TNC’s Auto Safety Program. Employees may not drive Conservancy-owned/leased vehicles, rental cars, or personal vehicles on behalf of the Conservancy if considered "high risk drivers."
