The Development Coordinator works on a variety of activities in support of The Nature Conservancy in Massachusetts’ fundraising and donor stewardship activities. They work with colleagues across the organization to ensure gifts and pledges are accurately recorded to reflect donor intent and promptly acknowledged. They support out the door fundraisers with navigating gift receipting processes and thanking donors. The Development Coordinator is responsible for ensuring all gifts have documentation and records are managed for security and within retention guidelines. They are responsible for updating electronic donor records in Conservancy’s CRM database and will extract reports and provide gift information to staff. They facilitate a quarterly review of donor pledges in partnership with the finance manager. They support fundraising staff with an internal corporate registry process. They also provide support to conservation and policy staff to track public funds. They also provide general membership assistance along with other tasks, as needed.

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Responsible for gift, pledges and other revenue processing for Massachusetts ensuring accuracy and compliance with Standard Operating Procedures and FASB guidelines. Responsible for adjustments related to gift and pledge processing. They oversee local depositing processes.
  • Responsible for pledge tracking, reporting and management of reminder systems. They co-manage a quarterly review of pledges with finance.
  • Supports fundraising staff to provide timely acknowledgment of donor gifts.
  • Manages gift records in digital and paper form, ensuring records security procedures and retention guidelines are met.
  • Coordinates entry into TNC’s Corporate Registry supporting fundraisers with registering corporate solicitations and gifts.
  • Manages the public funding pipeline for Massachusetts working with policy and conservation staff to manage bi-annual reviews and data entry.
  • Assist the Finance Manager, conservation staff and fundraising staff in gift related communications, tracking, reporting and research to support donor stewardship. May include helping create budgets, assisting with due diligence and troubleshooting.
  • Works with the Finance Manager to ensure an internal audit with no findings for development.
  • Handles local member inquiries related to development. Works with membership program at headquarters to solve problems.
  • Participates in local and organizational-wide teams according to role, learning and professional development plans.
  • Assists with other departmental projects, as assigned.
  • Make day-to-day decisions within the scope of work assignments and prioritize work independently. Coordinate projects with several variables, work within a defined timeline.
  • Identify routine problems and utilize existing resources for resolution, referring difficult questions and problems to supervisor.
  • Ensure compliance with TNC’s policies and procedures, and external (donor/legal/IRS) requirements are met.
  • Demonstrate sensitivity in handling confidential information.
  • Does not supervise any staff, but may supervise volunteers, interns, or temporary staff.
  • Financial responsibility includes working within a budget, processing invoices and transfers, and contracting with vendors.
  • Work environment involves only infrequent exposure to disagreeable elements and minor physical exertion and/or strain.
  • Travel and work flexible hours.

What You’ll Bring:

  • Bachelor’s degree and 2 years’ experience or equivalent combination.
  • Experience building relationships with staff, customers or similar.
  • Experience in data entry in a database or equivalent.
  • Experience generating reports and interpreting data.
  • Experience in business writing, editing, and proofreading.
  • Experience working across teams collaboratively.
  • Strong organization skills, accuracy, and attention to detail.
  • Experience, coursework, or other training in principles and practices in not-for-profit revenue management.
  • Experience managing multiple projects at once, completing deadlines, and ownership of work.

Salary Information:

The starting pay range for a candidate selected for this position is generally within the range of $65,160 – $78,120. This range only applies to candidates whose country of employment is the USA. Where a successful candidate’s actual pay will fall within this range will be based on a variety of factors, including, for example, the candidate's location, qualifications, specific skills, and experience. Please note countries outside the USA would have a different pay range in the local currency based on the local labor market, and not tied to USA pay or ranges. Your geographic location will be confirmed during the recruitment.
