WHAT WE CAN ACHIEVE TOGETHER


The NCS Communications Manager is responsible for conceptualizing and creating communications products, including white papers, policy briefs, case studies, fact sheets, blog posts, articles, presentations, and other written materials to help advance our Natural Climate Solutions and the science behind this strategy . Under the direct management of the Global Director of Natural Climate Solutions, they will act as a conduit and guide between the NCS Science Team and the Global Marketing and Communications (GMC) Team. They are a thought partner and science communicator who will use strategic thinking, storytelling, and creative approaches to communicate outputs from the NCS Science team that fit within layers of goals and objectives of the organization and its climate change priority and narrative.

The NCS Communications Manager will create and contribute content for the GMC and NCS Science Teams based on a co-developed prioritized communications plan. They will develop content including key messages and talking points, as needed. They will actively identify focal audiences and cultivate relationships with key stakeholders and media contacts and manage the dissemination of media information. They will funnel content through internal channels for communications (GMC, Media Relations, Donor Communications). They will help the NCS Science Team elevate NCS overall through storytelling and interactions with Global Digital, Global Creative, Internal Communications, Regional Marketing colleagues, and others as needed on local, regional, and global levels. They will also provide consultation, media training, coaching and talking points to persons serving as spokesperson(s).

This is a two-year funded position with the possibility for extension based on deliverables and funding.

WHAT YOU'LL BRING

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field and a minimum 7 years’ related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience managing and implementing media strategies and measuring results.
  • Experience writing, editing and proofreading messages for targeted audiences.
  • Experience cultivating and managing client relationships.
  • Experience developing media relations networks.
  • Experience implementing and managing multiple complex projects.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Multi-lingual skills appreciated.
  • Multi-cultural, cross-cultural, and Diversity, Equity and Inclusion experience preferred.
  • Experience developing, implementing and measuring communication and engagement plans/strategies.
  • Experience in understand audiences and how to cater different content (e.g. policy makers, corporate partners, NGO’s, government agencies, media).
  • Excellent science communication writing, presentation, and communication skills.
  • Experience managing a budget.
  • Familiarity with communication technologies and best practices.
  • Upward management experience, experience with senior staff/leadership.
  • Knowledge and application of current and evolving trends in Natural Climate Solutions.
