The Associate Director, Audience Strategy is responsible for reaching and engaging new and diverse audiences including developing personas and insights, mapping their journeys, setting annual goals, and ensuring that campaign and content strategies meet the needs of the audiences and our goals. You are responsible for working with the division team members to build strategies to increase our reach and engagement. You will work in close collaboration with the Director of Global Brand Strategy & Activation, Associate Director of Campaign Strategy & Planning, and many members of the Marketing and Communications team, as well as stakeholders across the Conservancy to identify opportunities and efficiencies.

In this position, you will:

  • Be responsible for defining new segments, setting goals, and working with marketing teams and the annual signature campaigns to help achieve those goals.
  • Work independently and as part of a team to map and manage audience growth.
  • Understand the problems and challenges of your audiences and identify ways TNC could better address those needs
  • Set growth targets and develop and execute a plan to meet them
  • Connect with broader cross-functional teams to help define campaign objectives and content needs for the segments you manage
  • Develop research and testing opportunities to deepen our understanding and improve marketing performance
  • Partner with analytics team members to manage KPIs and reporting processes
  • Serve as an audience development expert for teams across the network seeking to build relationships with their local audiences.

We are looking for an audience strategist who will plan and manage engagement and cultivation for non-donor audiences, deepen our understanding through segmentation and personas, set and manage growth targets, partner with campaign and content strategists to help reach your goals, and help develop the communications to move them through their journey. You will champion your audience segments during the global campaign and content planning process, and will leverage social behavior, campaign performance, and current trends to improve TNC’s understanding of the constituents who want to share in our mission to address the climate and biodiversity crises.


Please apply if you have these:

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field and a minimum of 9 years related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience managing staff and teams.
  • Experience developing marketing plans and measuring results.
  • Experience cultivating and managing client relationships.
  • Experience leading complex project and program/account management including financial responsibilities and measuring results of strategic plans and programs.

The ideal candidate will have all or some of these:

  • Multi-lingual skills appreciated.
  • Multi-cultural or cross-cultural experience preferred.
  • Experience leading in a team-based environment with internal and/or external partners.
  • Critical thinker with demonstrated problem-solving skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and upward management skills, including the ability to negotiate, influence, and persuade.
  • Ability and comfort working in partnership with all levels of staff in a collaborative or advisory role.
  • Strategic, motivated self-starter capable of working both independently and collaboratively.
  • Informed, engaged, and enthusiastic about current and evolving trends in marketing relationship management
  • Demonstrated ability in managing the fiduciary aspects of planning and delivery of budgets.
  • Strong writing skills with the experience in email marketing and cultivation communications
  • Experience in meeting facilitation and/or meeting management.
  • Positive, solution-oriented outlook.
