The Conservation Manager, Aquaculture Investment advances The Nature Conservancy’s efforts to encourage catalyse impact capital into sustainable and restorative aquaculture farms and transformative technologies. The Nature Conservancy has partnered with an investment manager to establish the world’s first aquaculture investment fund designed to actively improve ocean health. The Conservation Manager serves to implement the fund’s Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) strategy. The Conservation Manager will be responsible for screening and creating detailed ESG due diligence reports of prospective investments building from existing guidelines and tools developed by TNC and make formal recommendations to the fund’s Conservation Committee. Working collaboratively with the manager’s team, the Conservation Manager will work with prospective investees to develop impact action plans for companies. The Conservation Manager will be responsible for monitoring and evaluation of the fund’s investees to track progress against fund impact targets and company specific Key Performance indicators. The Conservation Manager will be responsible for generating fund level bi-annual impact reporting and generate an annual impact report. The Conservation Manager will also work to share learnings and distribute tools and sustainable investing practices more broadly with the investment sector to help the fund’s conservation approaches gain greater application. The position may involve international travel up to 30% of the time.


This position reports to the Nature Conservancy’s Global Aquaculture Lead.

We’re looking for a passionate, dedicated person to act as a lead Conservation Manager in the aquaculture industry and work within our Global Aquaculture Program, which is part of the Global Provide Food and Water Business Unit. A significant understanding of sustainability issues within the aquaculture sector, analytical skills, project management expertise, and ability to work in a fast-paced environment are key in this role.

WHAT YOU'LL BRING


  • BA/BS degree and 5 years’ experience in aquaculture sustainability, natural resource management, impact investing or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience managing complex or multiple projects, under deadlines.
  • Experience developing and implementing sustainability tools to assess and inform industry/company practices.
  • Experience communicating and synthesizing and presenting complex information concisely to senior management teams for decision making.
  • Experience working in a fast-paced environment and generate quality products under fast turnaround times.
  • Experience developing KPIs and database management


DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS


  • MS in Aquaculture, Agriculture, Marine Resource Management, or alternatively MBA.
  • 5-7 years’ experience in aquaculture sustainability and or/impact investment, or a combination of education and experience.
  • Knowledge of and experience implementing best practices in impact/ESG investing in food production sectors.
  • Knowledge of current trends, practices, and technology in aquaculture farming and technology, particularly within Europe and the Asia-Pacific Region.
  • Knowledge of/experience working with existing sustainability/certification schemes relevant to the aquaculture sector.
  • Experience working with and existing networks in the impact investing/ESG community.
  • Experience managing contracts and executing programs within budgetary constraints.
  • Multi-lingual and multi-cultural or cross-cultural experience appreciated.
  • Fundraising experience a plus.
  • Experience in finance and investments
