WHAT WE CAN ACHIEVE TOGETHER
The Burn Crew Manager works with the Nebraska Prescribed Fire Manager, TNC partners, and private landowners to increase the efficiency, scope, and pace of prescribed burning on private lands with the goal of improving habitats for wildlife species of concern and economic performance of ranch lands.
In this role, you will function as both a leader and a member of a work team. You will lead the team by monitoring the progress of burn crew members toward achieving the fire management goals. You will be a key decision maker on the fire line based on your evaluation of fire behaviour, available resources and judgment.

Do you thrive leading teams in high-pressure, physically challenging environments, like prescribed burns? Are you a Qualified Fire Fighter Type 1 who would enjoy working with landowners and partners to expand the use of fire to improve the quality of Nebraska’s grasslands for people and nature.

Our team consists of a dedicated group who are leading the conservation effort on multiple fronts and who expertly bring strategy and action together.
WHAT YOU'LL BRING
- High school diploma and 1-year training in fire operations, science-related field or similar field or related experience in land management.
- Qualified Fire Fighter Type 1 (Squad Boss) and successful completion of FFT1 task book or be able to show equivalent fireline experience. Requirements for FFT1 can be found in the Conservancy Fire Management Manual at: http://www.tncfiremanual.org/SquadBoss.htm.
- Must achieve physical fitness standards as set by local Fire Manager and the TNC Fire Manual.
- Experience operating and maintaining various types of equipment.
- Experience supervising staff or volunteers is required
- May be required to obtain related licenses and certifications such as CPR and herbicide application.
- Must have valid driver’s license

SALARY INFORMATION
Hourly rate: $24 – $27 per hour
