The role
Ice cream packaging is a fun challenge. A Magnum wrapper has to survive a frozen supply chain and then open cleanly in one hand. A cone sleeve has to keep the wafer crisp. A tub has to make it from factory to freezer to sofa. Making all of that more sustainable, without giving any of it up, is where it gets really interesting.
This role runs TMICC's packaging sustainability agenda end to end. You drive the interventions that make our plastic and paper-based packaging better, you build the roadmaps that keep us ahead of packaging legislation, and you make sure we can be straight about where we are today and where we still need to get to.
It is an orchestration role. Technical development sits with RD&I and our suppliers, regulatory interpretation with Legal and Public Affairs, buying with Procurement, the consumer story with Brand, and you have colleagues with transversal expertise in nature and human rights alongside you. Your job is to bring the right people together, decide where we focus, and hold the plan. That takes real packaging knowledge, strong data capability, and the confidence to challenge.

What You'll Be Responsible For
Packaging Sustainability Direction
- Establish and lead a cross-functional packaging sustainability working group to coordinate TMICC's packaging sustainability roadmap, ensuring alignment with business priorities, sustainability ambitions and evolving regulatory requirements.
- Maintain oversight of packaging sustainability initiatives across innovation, procurement, RD&I, regulatory affairs, marketing, legal and operations, ensuring clear ownership, alignment and progress against priorities.
- Co-create TMICC's position on packaging recyclability, circularity, recycled content and sustainable material choices.
- Support the development of packaging sustainability targets, transition plans and priority interventions in partnership with Sustainability leadership and key business functions.
- Assess sustainability opportunities, risks and trade-offs to support prioritisation and investment decisions.
- Monitor global trends, stakeholder expectations and industry best practices to identify opportunities that strengthen TMICC's sustainability performance and competitive advantage.
- Support the PPWR squad on implementation in Europe and contribute to readiness plans for emerging packaging regulations globally.
- Establish and manage workflows for the collection, validation and maintenance of packaging compliance documentation, including Declarations of Compliance (DoC), EUDR requirements and supporting technical records.
- Maintain a global overview of existing and emerging EPR schemes, packaging taxes and related regulatory obligations, assessing implications for TMICC.
- Partner with RD&I, Public Affairs and Legal teams to support TMICC's packaging advocacy strategy and external policy positions.
- Translate regulatory developments into clear business implications, risks and opportunities for packaging decision-making.
- Support development of the packaging sustainability data roadmap, including future capability requirements, and ensure alignment with MagnumOne and broader enterprise data initiatives.
- Act as the primary point of contact for packaging sustainability data, reporting requirements and methodology questions across the organisation.
- Manage packaging sustainability metrics and reporting processes, supporting ESRS disclosures and other internal and external sustainability reporting requirements.
- Coordinate annual reporting on plastics, packaging sustainability and circular economy initiatives.
- Own the packaging sustainability fact base and provide subject matter expertise for sustainability disclosures, customer requests, external communications and packaging-related sustainability claims.
- Translate data and analysis into clear recommendations that support decision-making across packaging strategy, sourcing and innovation.
- Partner with RD&I to develop and maintain TMICC's Design for Recycling (DfR) principles, guidelines and assessment approaches.
- Monitor developments in collection, sorting and recycling infrastructure to identify opportunities to improve real-world recyclability outcomes.
- Evaluate circularity mechanisms, recovery systems and industry initiatives that can help increase collection, recovery and recycling of TMICC packaging materials.
- Support evaluation of recycled-content strategies, alternative materials and circular sourcing approaches that advance TMICC's packaging sustainability objectives.
- Identify and develop partnerships with recyclers, NGOs, industry initiatives and technology providers that can accelerate progress towards TMICC's packaging sustainability goals.
- Lead supplier engagement on packaging sustainability requirements, certification programmes and related compliance expectations.
- Manage sustainability-related supplier certifications and supporting documentation processes.
- Oversee FSC and PEFC chain-of-custody certification programmes and associated sourcing requirements.
- Manage ISCC-related requirements and documentation supporting recycled-content verification and traceability processes.
- Support development of supplier sustainability expectations and improvement initiatives in partnership with Procurement.
- Represent TMICC in external industry forums, trade associations and working groups, including organisations such as FoodDrinkEurope.
- Build and maintain strategic relationships with industry partners, recyclers, NGOs, certification bodies and sustainability networks.
- Represent TMICC's position on packaging sustainability topics and contribute to the development of emerging industry standards, guidance and best practices.
- Bring external insights, partnerships and innovation opportunities back into the business to strengthen TMICC's packaging sustainability agenda.
- A technical packaging background. Understanding of packaging materials and conversion across both plastic and paper-based formats.
- Strong project management. A track record of running complex, multi-stakeholder projects to deadline in a matrix organisation.
- Strong data and analytics capability. Comfortable with large, imperfect packaging datasets. Able to build models and scenarios (advanced Excel & Power BI) and turn the analysis into roadmaps and clear plans.
- Familiarity with the packaging regulatory landscape. PPWR, national EPR schemes and FSC / PEFC certification. Enough to know what matters and to lead the conversation with the specialists, not to be the specialist.
- The confidence to challenge. You are the person in the room who asks why, and you ask it well. Comfortable holding a position with senior and technical stakeholders, and taking them with you rather than leaving them behind.
- Sector experience in consumer goods, food, retail or packaging manufacturing.
- Comfort with pace and ambiguity. We are building a new company and a new function at the same time. Not everything exists yet, and some of it you will build.
- Frozen or chilled supply chain packaging experience.
- Design for recycling assessment tools and industry protocols.
- Packaging specification, PLM or artwork data systems.
