Our Field Technicians contribute directly to our energy conservation efforts that benefit communities, reduce carbon footprints, and support net-zero carbon goals.
The Field Technician plays a crucial role in supporting Franklin Energy’s mission to promote energy efficiency and carbon reduction. The primary responsibility involves installing, servicing, modifying, and removing Direct Load Control devices in residential homes. These devices help manage electricity usage more efficiently, especially for HVAC systems, and are part of larger utility programs aimed at reducing energy load during peak times (such as a hot summer day)
- Perform installations, inspections, modifications, servicing, and removal of DLC (Direct Load Control) devices in residential settings.
- Demonstrate understanding of basic HVAC systems and components.
- Work with electrical, mechanical, and electronic tools and principles.
- Exhibit competency in basic wiring and system troubleshooting.
- Participate in on-call rotations for after-hours service requests.
- Conduct and report on inventory count and assist with fleet vehicle maintenance and safety inspections.
- Maintain a clean, organized work environment, including warehouse and vehicle areas.
What you’ll be doing on the job:
You’ll be visiting residential homes daily, to install and maintain energy-saving devices—specifically Direct Load Control switches. These are typically placed on HVAC systems or water heaters to help the utility reduce load during peak hours, for example - hot summer afternoons when AC usage spikes.
Some additional things you’ll be doing:
- Access HVAC units, which may be in attics, basements, or outside the home.
- Install control switches or devices on the AC compressor unit or furnace.
- Ensure it’s working properly and connected to the grid/smart control system.
