Staff Transmission Engineer
Job Summary: The Transmission Engineer II will oversee civil, structural, and electrical design evaluations, analysis, and modifications for high-voltage overhead and underground transmission interconnect facilities at solar and BESS energy facility connections. Responsibilities include reviewing plan sets for line routes, structure plans, design calculations, BOMs, stringing, and material and equipment specifications. Additional duties involve site visits, MV collection design, substation structure and foundation assessments, fiber optic cabling, grounding, and material take-offs. The role requires close collaboration with engineers, clients, and contractors to coordinate design packages and ensure smooth transitions from design to construction. Lead efforts in organizing, reviewing, interpreting, and executing design and project coordination tasks, ensuring alignment with overall project goals.
Responsible for evaluating, selecting, and applying standard engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria, using judgment to adapt and modify designs, and providing interpretations and conclusions.
Review or develop the design philosophy and associated calculations for transmission design projects.
Have a strong understanding of electrical power and distribution systems (low, medium, and high voltage), including grounding systems and engineering calculations (voltage drop, fault current, load calculations, etc.), Contribute to design development, optimization, and field construction methods.
Develop and update engineering tools for equipment sizing based on project requirements.
Produce independent engineering reports and evaluations.
Review and provide feedback on commercial agreements, including Power Purchase Agreements (PPA), Interconnection Agreements, and Facility Studies.
Collaborate with business development, estimating, and engineering teams to create site layouts, single line drawings, and BOMs for project proposals.
Offer technical support to project teams and contractors, performing advanced engineering tasks as needed.
Assess and optimize the system design by analyzing the electrical technology and project requirements.
Assist with the design and optimization of substation, BESS, and solar systems to meet project goals while minimizing costs and maximizing value.
