Job Description / Desired Qualifications:
- The successful candidate would need to live close to the geographic area that they would be assigned.
- Roughly, the triangle of Anniston, Sylacauga, and Roanoke, AL located in the Eastern Division.
- We would like the candidate to live within the geographic area OR be located no farther than 1 hour from either Roanoke or Sylacauga, AL.
- This worker will be field checking 3-4 days a week.
Additional Desired Qualifications of a Lighting Specialist:
- A Lighting Specialist is a professional responsible for evaluating, designing, and implementing lighting solutions for various applications, settings, including residential, commercial, industrial, and outdoor environments.
- Implementing, and maintaining lighting systems for various applications, such as commercial buildings, residential spaces, outdoor environments, and industrial facilities.
- They have expertise in lighting technology, design principles, and energy efficiency.
- They collaborate with clients, architects, and project teams to create effective and energy-efficient lighting solutions.
- This candidate would be working primarily in our new residential area, but could be utilized for our Commercial and Industrial areas in the future.
Client Consultation:
- Collaborate with clients, architects, and interior designers to understand their lighting needs, project requirements and objectives, preferences, and project goals.
Lighting Design:
- Create customized lighting plans and designs that meet aesthetic, functional, and energy-efficient requirements.
- Consider factors such as lighting levels, color rendering, and ambiance.
- Design lighting systems that meet aesthetic, functional, and energy-efficiency goals.
Lighting Calculations:
- Perform lighting calculations and simulations to determine the appropriate fixtures, luminance levels, and lighting layouts for different spaces.
Product Selection:
- Recommend and specify appropriate lighting fixtures, lamps, bulbs, and controls based on the project's design concept, budget, and energy-efficiency goals.
Energy Efficiency:
- Focus on sustainable and energy-efficient lighting solutions by incorporating LED technology, daylight harvesting, motion sensors, and smart lighting controls.
- Focus on energy-efficient lighting design by incorporating LED technology, daylight harvesting, and other sustainable practices to reduce energy consumption and environmental impact.
Technical Drawings:
- Create detailed lighting plans, technical drawings, and specifications that can be used by contractors and installers for construction and implementation.
Lighting Calculations:
- Perform lighting calculations and simulations to determine optimal fixture placement, illumination levels, and lighting layouts.
Product Selection:
- Select lighting fixtures, controls, and accessories based on project requirements, budget constraints, and client preferences.
Compliance:
- Ensure that lighting designs comply with relevant codes, standards, and regulations, including energy codes, safety guidelines, and accessibility requirements.
Site Visits:
- Conduct site visits and evaluations to assess existing lighting conditions, troubleshoot issues, and gather data for retrofit or renovation projects.
Budget Management:
- Provide cost estimates and budgets for lighting projects.
- Work within budget constraints while delivering high-quality lighting solutions.
Project Management:
- Manage lighting projects from concept to completion, coordinating with contractors, electricians, and other stakeholders to ensure timely and accurate installation.
Project Documentation:
- Create detailed lighting plans, technical drawings, and specifications for contractors and installers to follow during the construction phase.
Commissioning:
- Oversee the commissioning process to ensure that lighting controls and systems operate efficiently and according to design specifications.
Product Knowledge:
- Stay updated on the latest lighting products, technologies, and trends.
- Evaluate and recommend new lighting products for use in projects.
Quality Control:
- Inspect and oversee the installation of lighting systems to ensure that they meet design specifications and performance expectations.
- Perform quality control inspections to verify that lighting systems are installed correctly and function as designed.
Documentation:
- Maintain accurate project documentation, including drawings, specifications, change orders, and as-built records.
Client Communication:
- Communicate regularly with clients to provide updates, address concerns, and ensure satisfaction with the lighting solutions.
Technology Integration:
- Explore and integrate smart lighting systems, automation, and controls to enhance user experience and energy savings.
Client Education:
- Educate clients and end-users about the benefits of the selected lighting solutions, including energy savings, maintenance requirements, and control options.
Collaboration:
- Collaborate with electrical engineers, contractors, and other professionals involved in the project to ensure seamless implementation.
Technology Integration:
- Incorporate smart lighting systems, automation, and controls where appropriate to enhance user experience and energy efficiency.
Education:
- A bachelor's degree in lighting design, electrical engineering, architecture, or a related field.
- Lighting design certifications (e.g., LC - Lighting Certified) are advantageous.
Experience:
- Proven experience in lighting design and implementation, preferably in residential, commercial, or architectural setting.
- Experience in lighting design and engineering, preferably in a consulting or architectural firm.
- Familiarity with lighting design software (e.g., AGi32, Dialux) is beneficial.
Technical Knowledge:
- Comprehensive understanding of lighting principles, photometrics, lighting controls, and emerging lighting technologies.
Software Proficiency:
- Proficiency in lighting design software (e.g., AGi32, Dialux), AutoCAD, and other relevant design tools.
Codes and Standards:
- Familiarity with lighting codes, standards, and regulations, including ASHRAE, IESNA, and energy codes.
Regulatory Knowledge:
- Familiarity with lighting codes, standards, and regulations, such as IESNA standards and energy efficiency guidelines.
Creativity:
- Strong design and creative skills to develop innovative lighting concepts that enhance spaces.
Communication:
- Excellent communication and presentation skills to effectively convey design concepts and solutions, lighting options, and benefits to clients and project teams.
